While true, there's less of hazing and bullying, fewer coaches trying to actively screw with your head etc.

A local podcast in Columbus made a comment about Patrick Laine contemplating suicide and all the other members on the podcast laugh at the comment.

Patrick Laine has since responded

https://twitter.com/user/status/1757167077905907868

The podcast has since recorded an apology video which hasn't been received well for the most part in the comments

Wow that is absolutely embarrassing. So sad to hear it had gotten to that point for Laine, I know the loss of his dad hit him super hard and I’m happy he’s getting the help he needs. It’s crap like this that doesn’t help anyone and they should have known better, I’m rooting for Laine to get on the other side of this battle and hopefully he can ignore those with little to no compassion.

I hope he takes as much time as he needs away from hockey and gets his life back in order as it seems like he's been in a dark place. As for that podcast I'm not going to give them a click but they should be ashamed of themselves if they were laughing at his struggles. Exhibit A of the worst type of sports fans.

In summary, the guy said Laine was contemplating a “Remington retirement”…

Gross stuff by the guy. I know I’ve said some thoughtless stuff when I was younger, and had opportunity to take a step back and realize how gross it was. We aren’t living in a movie, this is real life, with real people, who have real #### going on. It’s just a game.

Absolutely grotesque, the way they all covered their faces and laughed at the joke. Just brutal, this is why people have a hard time talking about their mental health issues.

Disgusting. I'm glad most of the internet seem to be absolutely trashing this 'podcast'. Get better soon, Laine.

Podcasts, the last refuge of the chronically unemployable. 90% of them are garbage. The remainder are just bad journalism.

Just reported the podcast on Apple. Seems this episode is now missing, but I encourage anyone to do the same if they also feel these dinks need to be silenced.

I had no idea what that phrase meant but it seems everyone does. Did I somehow miss that phrase my whole life? Remington Retirement. It's not even that clever.

How to kill your podcast 101. They published an apology video on their YouTube channel but I couldn't get through the rambling.

Did this podcast even have a following in the market? Or is just randos with delusions of grandeur who got caught being ####ty and that exploded their interactions?

I can't even comprehend how someone makes a joke like that, especially on a platform like that. Cancel them.

Yikes. Suicide Jokes.

I always find this strange within the context of Sports, things like; 'hoping a player kills himself' is a new one.

Like...this guy plays for the team you support. He is a good player. You want him to play well because then the team you cheer for will be better.

You should be hoping that he can overcome whatever ails him so he can help your team be better.

I didnt hear the joke or the context because Xitter barely works for me for whatever reason, and I'm pretty easy-going in regards to jokes, but suicide jokes about someone experiencing a mental health crisis? Oof....you might need a brain re-adjustment.

Maybe we should make 'Lobotomy Jokes' regarding whoever that guy is.

Yeah, I completely agree. I had 2 people close to me resort to suicide, and I have a hard time taking any jokes on the matter.

The first one was in high school, and none of us(the dumb kids that we were) took the signs seriously, joking about it as well, until it was too late.

The second happened almost exactly a year ago, and was a complete gut punch without a warning. My point is that people need to feel comfortable enough to be able to get help. Making fun of the process helps absolutely no one.
