Brouwer said he sees a lot of similarities between the 2010 Blackhawks and this year's Panthers. But instead of older guys like John Madden coming him to help him, he's now become the older guy. Excited to help Florida's young stars.

Brouwer on #FlaPanthers: "I see something special in the making."
I swear he said the exact same things about coming to Calgary.

Or hard to imagine he would think he was good enough here for that matter. I mean, he got bought out.

Well quite honestly he didn't have a great opportunity with Calgary to put up points because the group, and especially who he found himself playing with, aren't tremendously prolific in their ability to score.

I could see him going to a team like the panthers and putting up more points than he did in his last season in Calgary, but based on the quality of his minutes I'd suggest those points sometimes come at the detriment of the team.

I think I'd agree with that. It's close, maybe closer than it should be, but Brouwer is probably better than Hathaway.

Hathaway though is an AHLer in my opinion. So is that like saying Brouwer is a 1st line AHLer and Hathaway is a 2nd line AHLer?

If not, Troy Brouwer will not be the first casualty.

So, Brouwer had 97.3 minutes of PP time in 17/18, and did not register a goal. He actually only had 14 shots on goal in that time. I think he was given more than enough opportunity on the PP.

Are you suggesting that hockey players throw out a bunch of cliched answers to the same boring questions?

Hockey interviews are the worst.

I am not surprised he got another opportunity either. But I don't agree with the bold. Our projected lineup:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - Backlund - Lindholm
Bennett - Jankowski - Frolik
Rychel - Ryan - Czarnik

with Lazar, Hathaway, Mangiapane, Dube and Foo fighting to crack into that lineup.

Before they bought him out, I saw nowhere for him to play (yes, Rychel wasn't in the picture then, but that is LW, I like Mangiapane and Dube fighting it out for that spot). On RW, Brouwer had no place in the lineup this year, and I sure as hell didn't want to see him keeping Czarnik out of the lineup.

And that has nothing to do with salary - for me, anyway. I view salary as a sunk cost (once the season starts), and just want to ice the best team possible.

I don't think Brouwer is giving 110%.

I'm not talking about fighting or blocking shots, I'm talking about puck pressure, skating, and effort.
Very true. While I'm glad Brouwer found another job, he just isn't a very good player in general anymore and he truly is an addition by subtraction.

For those saying that he's a fine player as long as he's being paid this lower salary, ask yourself this question; if NHL contracts were confidential and you had no idea what a player like Brouwer was being paid, would you have thought his performances the past 2 seasons were acceptable?

Sorry to say, but T-Bro sucks as a hockey player and no minimum salary is going to change that.

"I feel like I bring some depth," Brouwer said. "My numbers in Calgary over the past two years were not how I feel reflect the player that I am… I feel like I'm a versatile player. I can sit in and fill a lot of different roles. I know this team is a really young and talented team. For me, it's just to support and help out in situations that I excel in."

When asked what situations he'd like to be placed in, Brouwer joked that although "everybody would love to be on the power play" he's more interested in being the type of player that can slot in anywhere in the lineup on any given night, a piece of a larger championship puzzle.

"When the opportunity arrived to come to Florida and play for the Panthers, we were really excited about it," Brouwer said. "It's a phenomenal young team, a great place to live and something my family is really looking forward to."
