I don't know what people expect, of course there's going to be a lot of CGI, Atlantis isn't a real place. Were you also upset at Black Panther or Infinity War for having a lot of CGI? Both great films, but both had a lot of CGI.
Honestly the CG doesn't bother me at all. Atlantis looks pretty cool and the under water battle looks fun to watch.
But the characterization of Aquaman and just the over-dramatized story has me saying no thanks. They're really hammering home the "outcast comes home to be king" trope. Which I'm sure is a vital part of his story, but to play it up so hard in the marketing, I dunno, it feels tired I guess. Sort of felt the same way about Venom.
I mean, I'm not at all interested in Aquaman as a movie or a comic or a character. That said, I'm not actively rooting for the movie to be terrible or to be a commercial flop or anything. I hope it's a great movie for fans who are into it and I hope it does well commercially.

Funny you mention that. I had just finished watching an awesome Mountain Bike film where they went to the back country in the Yukon. Then watched Black Panther, and had to pause at the waterfall and ask why they use such fake looking crap when our really world has so many amazing beautiful places. They could have filmed at a real location, even a composite shot would have brought more wow than the CGI waterfall. I think it looks cheap and tacky.
Now, obviously Aquaman can't do that but CGI is really overused, and it makes them all incredibly bland. Wolverine kept most of it natural, and it felt like being in a real place when they were in the woods/mountains.

Me too, I mean, I hope its decent. I'm not going to see it in theaters but I'll likely rent it at home one day unless the reviews are really putrid and then I'll wait for it to hit the movie channels or Netflix or something.
But I have no vested interest in it sucking. Generally speaking I like Jason Momoa and I'm hoping it does well.
However I'm also a realist especially when it comes to DC.
When it comes to DC you 'hope' in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up first.

Even in Infinity War the CGI is spotty in parts. Especially the scenes Tony and Peter. It's very obvious their suits are CG and, when unmasked, their heads seem to wobble above their suits.
Yeah I searched and couldn't find the specific post. I believe it was the $800M threshold we discussed, now that you mention it. Or that JL would surpass WW in worldwide box office. No worries about the sig.
I was shocked that out of the 36 movies in the 1 billion club, only two crushed the one billion mark. The Dark Knight and the Dark Knight Rises.
That's amazing, a lot of movies got their butts kicked by some bad movies.
Dunno what you mean by "crushed". Anyway, yeah, lots of mediocre movies but almost none of them surprising... except those ####ing Transformers movies. Who the hell watches those? Who thinks that's a good way to spend two hours? The fact that those movies are so successful makes me yearn for our extinction as a species.
