If he does play, I can see his role being limited. You may even see him being inserted for stretches purely as a spot-up shooter on the floor to stop the boxing of Curry.

It is hard to say what impact a limited Durant is until you know just how limited he is. I would speculate that he would play a more effective 8 and a half minutes than McKinnie, and being able to play a little longer may help give Thompson some rest (they need at least one of Durant and Thompson on court to stop the boxing out of Curry). But if he is lacking mobility, is he a risk for blown coverages, fouling, etc. which could be a net negative

If I'm Nick Nurse and I see Durant out there on the floor, I'm attacking him every possession. I'm making him move laterally, I'm making him defend Kawhi or Siakam. I'm doing everything I can to make sure that calf/Achilles pops.

Again, the guy can't run. If he can't run, he can't possibly be in game shape after 33 days off. Even if his leg doesn't explode, we saw what happened to Steph Curry after his 47 point game. He had nothing left in the 2nd half of game 4. Durant is going to be worse off and playing from much further behind than Steph.

The Raptors finish it tonight.

How do you know he cannot run? GS has been very conservative about bringing players back.

Didn’t they just rush an injured Cousins back and have Looney play with broken ribs?

Maybe, but they were quite patient with Thompson, he was ready for game 3. Cousins and Looney are cannon fodder, not the Crown Jewels. No one will know until he plays.

I think he is going to be about 90% and its going to be quite the end of the series here.

Knowing KD and his soft ego he is coming in to become a legend.

Sounds like he is playing tonight.

According to Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle and Monte Poole of NBC Sports, Durant is expected to play tonight, with Letourneau confirming that “Durant is expected to be a full-go.”

Poole, meanwhile, reported that the Warriors are continuing to list Durant as a “game-time decision,” but that “multiple league sources” confirmed to him Durant will be “a full go.”

I dunno why KD would do this... there was a video walking out of practice yesterday and he is not walking normally yet even. If he's even semi-injured, with the payday he'd get this summer, seems stupid to go at less than 100%. That's not like a muscle injury where you can tough it out, tendon tear can blow up if not healed risking his next season or even career.

Wonder if this is just tactics and they're going to trot him out on the bench to sit just to try and screw with the Raptors gameplan.

What other choice do they have? Their season is now on the line so it's likely he is being rushed back given he still hasn't practiced with the team yet. My money is on him playing ok but certainly not having any explosiveness or shot accuracy to the level we've come to expect from Durant.

It would be something near mythical if he came back in pure MVP form and stole back the series. Not outside the realm of possibility, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it. He probably plays but in a hyper limited role off the bench.

I do not understand where this is coming from, along with the "cannot run" thing earlier, which no one is reporting. How do you guys have this information? Because I've been following and everything I have seen indicates that they originally thought it was a strained calf muscle, and it turned out to be partially torn. That isn't a tendon tear, it is a muscle injury. Again, where are you getting your information? Because you seem really certain.

This is a guy who trolls over the internet to yell at people who belittle him and his "accomplishments" and was mad at how his joining of GS played out.

I wouldn't be shocked if he was sort of faking it a bit so he can come in and be the hero and try and build up his lore.

If im the Raptors I am preparing for a 90-100% KD tonight.

No one knows for sure... the Warriors are saying calf but if you do a quick google search there's plenty of folks saying it's more likely his Achilles and they're masking severity.

Either way, I get why the Warriors would rush him back but on a personal level dunno why he'd play if he's not fully healed so close to free agency with probably 100mil + on the line. There's a video of him walking out of practice yesterday and he's still limping, albeit slightly.

Yeah, because the internet mob is a reliable source and isn't at all prone to conspiracy thinking... I trust armchair doctors on the internet who are attempting to diagnose an injury using ESPN game footage even less than the basketball "journalists" who seem to deal exclusively in hot takes. The team is a primary source, and there is simply no reason to think they're lying, particularly since everything that has happened is consistent with them telling the truth.

There's plenty of reason to think he won't be particularly effective or that he'll have to play limited minutes, but it's the injection of claims that are just made up out of whole cloth as if those claims were verified truth that's annoying. You just said it's "not a muscle injury" but a "tendon tear", and you have no basis for saying so other than internet speculation. It would be great if everyone stopped doing that because it's really confusing.

I don't doubt that KD has a notoriously fragile ego but even he can't be that diabolical. That would be the ultimate selfish move. Especially after his team goes down 3-1 and could very well have been swept?

But I agree you have to prepare for a 100% KD. Kawhi Leonard seems to have this group laser focussed so I have full confidence his team will be prepared.

However, after over a month on the shelf, Durant plans to return to action for Game 5 against the Raptors on Monday night, according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. And not only will he play, but NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole reports that Durant will be in the starting lineup. Anthony Slater of The Athletic added that Durant is not expected to have a minutes restriction.
