At this point it might be worth considering moving an asset to entice a team to take the rest of Looch's contract so the Flames would have the cap room and roster room to call one or two guys up from the Wranglers.
But for the record no I don't think it will actually happen.

If this team had better than .900 goaltending they would have ten more points and everyone would be praising Sutter hockey.

Missed the game because I had an afternoon meeting. Guess that's what you call a Black Friday Matinee! Guess I didn't miss anything!

I agree the Flames lack high end talent here compared to last year. But they do have fairly good depth if they used it. They have three good centers and some decent wings. They just have to make some changes to inject more skill and youth into the top 9. I’d be perfectly happy playing Ritchie and Lewis 8 minutes a game on the fourth line. Lucic just needs to sit. Rooney can cycle in or be DFAd for all I care. But focus the top offensive players on 1-2 and make Backlund/co a good checking line.

So bite the ####ing bullet and pay the price to offload.
Coleman retained is moved.
Lucid retained is moved.
Backlund retained is moved.
Dube can be waived.
See if there is a buyer for Weegar, Huberdeau with the extensions.
We could of been in a early stage of chasing top end talent to rebuild instead we got screwed by the desperate businessman and Boston Puppet.

I assume you are hinting at Phillips, I personally don't believe he will get a chance with the Flames
They should waive Mackey, keep Gilbert and I assume Stone will be back any day.
Trade would be the ideal solution, they need a proper right winger.

I posted this in the game thread but will update it here with the stats from after today's game.
31 goalies have played more than 400 minutes when the game is within 1 goal (leading, trailing, tied).
Jacob Markstrom ranks 31st in save percentage (0.878), and ranks 31st in GSAA (-8.37).
There is literally no starting goalie worse than Jacob Markstrom when the game is close this year.

All round disappointing effort today. Let's hope they wake up before the game is over tomorrow.

Backlund is one of the better players this year. Any player put on his line also improves.

He has 13 goals in 17 games — I don't care how big he is, those numbers are overwhelming. If they're not gonna give that player a chance when the NHL club can't score for the world right now, what are they doing?
Not disagreeing with you. Rather their complete insistence against using the farm.

Does this team look like a cup contender anywhere on the roster?

31 other teams would be foolish to let him go to Europe. If Glenn Gawdin attracts a 20-team bidding war, Phillips is getting another NHL contract.

maybe jumping to sign Rooney in day 1 of free agency wasn't exactly necessary eh
nice job with priorities, leaving enough space for a young player to earn a job eh Brad
at least we got vet depth for dayssss

What an uninspired 2/3 of a game. First period was not bad, but woof..
The Flames are just so boring right now.

He won't get a chance with the Flames with this coach, but he will get a chance somewhere else and probably score on us.

Draft Pick
|
When chuckle and John left I thought the flames were in an excellent position for a rebuild this year with a strong draft coming up. They could have traded lindy, mangi, markstrom, hanifin. Taken on some bad contracts then made out like a bandit at the draft. Then the trade happened and they were full tilt on going for it. Too bad things have not worked out so far.
But I still wish they would have went for a rebuild or retooled for a couple years.

I wonder if it’s Tre or Sutter whom is truly dead set against giving Philips a chance for a game or two. Unless they are worried he will get claimed, in the event they send him back to the Wranglers.
