Flames Darryl Sutter needs to deploy better lines - STAT

the madness and experimentation needs to end , I don't care what the reason is, it can't go on

teams stack their talent for a reason . it is a tried and true method and has been the status quo for teams in this league and most leagues for a reason - it works

who extends a player at 10.5 million per year and plays them less minutes per game than his peers on the third line ?

deployment of his lines also deviates from league norms as he plays his top six less than other teams .. but how is that working out?

Nazem is obviously frustrated and I think that comes down to the fact that he's stapled with players who are underperforming and his frustration has led him to play without confidence as well

this team trying to outsmart the league whether it's Brad or the coaching staff has a long history of backfiring

as a team that lost some skill over the summer it's all the more reason to PLAY their skill as often as they can and with appropriate line mates and allow them time to gel

ESPECIALLY in situations where they are trailing and need production

what is Darryl thinking?? it's time to wake up and deploy this team correctly and give it a better chance to win games

this is so frustrating to watch because it is correctable and yet this team refuses to change its nonsensical approaches . it needs to stop

and we won't even start on call ups from the wranglers

wake up Darryl, wake up Brad, wake up Flames!

- suffering devoted fan

Maybe he just needs to be let go? I mean come on, everyone's thinking it. They've got another month or so before the season is a write off.

Sutter is fine, but he needs to be put in his place by the powers that be in the organization to correct his lines and adjust his line deployment to more league appropriate combos and TOI

Yeah I’m not against firing Sutter (but I find it very unlikely it happens unless he loses the dressing room) and replacing him with a more flexible offensive mind. It seems like a classic case of square peg, round hole. He’s trying to make everyone responsible and buy into his dump and chase/forecheck scheme. I just don’t think that meshes well with the players he has.

Sutter isn’t going anywhere especially after the extension. He may be stubborn but you know he gets it. Huby is back on the top line and it was just a matter of time. He was playing the lines as is because they were finally showing some chemistry. This team lacks offensive weapons and he’s been trying to find that spark. Unfortunately they just aren’t very good.

As mentioned numerous times, Sutter is not the coach for this version of the Flames and Vladar is the starter.

I disagree . he has diluted the talent too much

Sutter does get it , but the way he's going about achieving it this season specifically is counter productive

a less skilled team means you must LEAN on what skill you do have more

I am definitely against letting Sutter go.

But I believe if Sutter was let go we’d see a similar lack of defensive play/cohesion as when Tanev misses a few games.

I do agree about deployments and also calling up a couple guys like Phillips, Pelly, or Zary.

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Ruzicka
Mangiapane - Kadri - Toffoli
Coleman-Backlund-Phillips
Pelletier - Dube - Lewis

That would be fun to see.

Sutter was the best coach for the flames since... Sutter himself.
Can't believe some of you wanted him fired. Calm down y'all.

How is the season a write off when they are in a playoff spot

Problem is clearly personnel. Once they cut Milano and demoted the AHLers we saw how this forward group was going to look. Many of us noticed they were going to be icing four 4th liners any given night. It's kinda hard not to have bad lines.

There is no magic combination of the players on the roster that looks better than what they've done. One of Lewis or Rooney or Lucic or Ritchie is going to be playing above their talent.

Do you think Sutter would take it well if management forced his lineup choices? Like by taking his favorite toys away? I have a hard time thinking that goes well and I’m guessing Trev is doing his best to support Sutters vision.

A tenuous wild card spot with six teams nipping at their heels, entirely off of a 5-1 start where they looked totally different. If they keep playing this way for another month, that position will be long gone.

This team isn't making the playoffs with the way Sutter deploys the lines and just tosses them out like it's a deep 4-line team.

We should just scorch earth the whole thing - clearly we are a paper tiger. Treliving had a truly awful off season and Sutter is too old to be coaching... I wonder what pieces we could get for all of our boat anchor contracts. Buy high sell low.

my checklist for the Flames:

-huberdeau must be played on line 1
-lines 1 and 2 must be given similar deployment as league average with 17-21 minutes per night each
-call up one of zary, pelletier or phillips and give them top 9 duty
-limit line 4 to 10 minutes or less
-you can only play 3 of Lewis, Ritchie, Rooney, Lucic per game
-restrict Lewis and Lucic from the top 6 - that cannot happen
-LEAVE it

i guarantee that with time things improve

What Sutter sees from that is

Huberdeau- Lindholm- Ritchie
Dube - Kadri - Lewis
Mangiapane - Backlund - Lucic
Coleman - Rooney - McLain
