One of the best ways to naturally boost your immune system is to take cold showers. For years I've watched colds and flu's ravage my household and every time I'd barely get sick. It sounds deranged to most, but for a daily investment of 1 minute and zero cost, nothing comes close.

I swear by nasal irrigation for helping to avoid colds. I use sinus rinse every time I shower to help keep my deviated sinus relatively booger free. I haven't had a cold or the flu in 5 years.

Will take my toddler into the cold shower and report back when my hearing returns after all the screaming.

We weren't able to get in to see our doctor (our daughter has conjunctivitis), so we called the optometrist. Got in within an hour and got some prescription drops.

Our household has gone through the wringer in the last couple weeks. All of us sick at some stage or another, from 2 different colds/viral respiratory infections. Also a bit of a stomach bug as we've all battled with the D over the past 2 weeks at one point or another.

They do not work well anyways, especially for viral conjunctivitis.

For Viral Conjunctivitis prescription allergy drops can provide symptom relief. For Bacterial it is best to get a prescription antibiotic from an Optometrist. Can clear it up quickly and there are currently no shortages there.

What's with the conjunctivitis.

Was just in the clinic for it today. Prescribed antibiotic ointment.

My guess was viral, but doctor Prescribed that.

I guess someone pooped in his eye at daycare.

What interesting is Matata’s belief that cold showers works likely provides some degree of actual resistance to cold and flu. The placebo affect is quite an amazing drug and can produce real measurable changes.

So in some ways Matatas genuine belief is backed by science.

Haha yeah it's great fun with a 3 year old

You pull their bottom eyelid down and squeeze a line of it in that little eyelid pocket. Then they close their eyes and it rubs all around.

I don't really get why drops aren't just as good.

Sorry, should have explained further. We called 811 and they recommended to get the OTC drops just in case it started to present more like bacterial vs viral. After 10 visits around south Calgary and Okotoks I gave up. Our plan was to get an optometrist appointment if it did get worse, but thankfully it cleared up. Our friend who’s a nurse also recommended going the optometrist route, which obviously can be much easier and convenient than going to the doctor.

Yah, seems to be super common with this specific virus. We know a bunch of kids that ended up with it as a symptom along with the deep hacking cough. My 4 year old still sounds like a pack a day smoker…haha.

Do you use the premade packets? I find that really help with getting over a cold, but have never get them preventatively.

Wow, I've never heard of that before and it sounds awful and ridiculous. I know that drops are bad enough to get into kid's eyes. I'd almost think that with this ointment stuff it might be best to try to pull down their eyelid while sleeping and squeeze it on the eye.

When the kid is sleeping (or calm) just smear the ointment along the eye lid margin (near lash line) of both eyes. Enough will seep in to make a difference. Drops just end up on cheeks.
