Yeah, I didn't think he was that tall either. It could be that Markstrom and Vladar are so tall it makes him look really small.

Since I took the time to get these stats after his first goal against today, might as well post them here too, especially after yet another gross goal against.
Among 49 goalies that have played 300+ minutes 5v5, Markstrom ranks:
- 43rd in HDSV%
- 43rd in GSAA
- 39th in GSAA/60
- 42nd in SV%
- 32nd in average goal distance
At all strengths, among 60 goalies, Markstrom ranks:
- 45th in HDSV%
- 54th in GSAA
- 47th in GSAA/60
- 48th in SV%
- 42nd in average goal distance
The Flames, as a team, rank:
- 4th in shots against per 60
- 11th in scoring chances against per 60
- 6th in high danger chances against per 60
- 11th in xGA/60
So while this hasn't been the typical defensively-dominant Darryl Sutter Flames we're used it, they've been more than adequate in front of Markstrom.
What a horrible goalie he's been so far. 6'6" 207lbs my ass. Guy is made of air and looks tiny in the net.
It's frustrating because we know he can be a Vezina-calibre goalie and we're not going deep in the Playoffs without him, but right now he's even making Jack Campbell look pretty good.
The Edmonton series must've truly effed him up mentally.
Wake up, man. This team needs you

He flat out isn’t good enough. And I don’t get it. All 3 goals today could’ve been stopped. And maybe should’ve been. But I guess when you can’t score either it doesn’t matter.

I know Darryl wants to get him going but it’s at the point now where he has to realize it just isn’t going to happen. Markstrom has been a below average goalie for 20+ games now going back to the Oilers series. Below average is actually a stretch. He’s been one of the worst goalies in the league, good for at least one softie a game.
It’s time to see if Vladar can handle the job.

Never thought I'd have to do this for you Marky but here we are. I'm sending you a care package, we put these together for our struggling goalies to help them save a bit more.

Not at all. Every game he gets over 900, which isn’t much to ask for, we all say, this is when he turns it around. Then, lo and behold, he lets in his usual softie the next game. Rinse and repeat, for this year so far.

Only thing that helps me smile knowing we are stuck with him and that contract is they have Jack Campbell up north.

He straight up looks like end-career Hiller this year. I have no idea what the hell happened to Markstrom between last year and now, but he's an entirely different player. As you say it's horrible because we know how good he can be. I don't personally think he's mentally right, and he doesn't have an ounce of confidence, but if that's the case get Vladar in for some extra games and give Markstrom a few softer opponents to maybe rebuild the mental side of his game.

It might still be too early too worry about Markstrom, but this definitely feels similar to when Tommy Salo mentally broke. Luckily for the Oilers, Salo wasn't signed for another 3.5 seasons though

I for one am interested as to when The Experts deem that it will, indeed, be time to panic about Markstrom.
Because right now he is Hot Awful.
