Disappointed it's three years, but the price is right. Ideally should be 4 years, but I think Treliving did well here. It's not 1 or 2 years, so all is good.
Good cap hit, but would have hoped that could have got a couple more years, like 5.8x5.
Still, this helps the window of the next two seasons open and a chance to sign him up once they open the next window
I prefer Mangi at this term, tbh. To get in the 5-6 year range this cap hit would be higher and I’d sooner the roster flexibility down the road if there needs to be some sort of rebuild.

Also of note the Flames can use their 2nd buyout window that starts in 3 days for 48 hours on players who were on the reserve list at the most recent deadline and have a cap hit of at least $4 million.
Most likely they cannot use this window on Monahan if he is still considered injured.

Just a reminder that his agent went on with Eric Francis and talked about Mangi's interest in signing a long-term deal, he said:
“It’s at least in the seven (million dollar) range. Could it be in the eight range? Potentially. If he gets 40 or 45 it could climb to who knows where."
So if that's where they view his value on a 6-8 year deal, signing for only 3 years makes sense in order to get the caphit down to $5.8M.

Flames keep it below $6M, while Mang is setting himself up for a big UFA deal just before he turns 30.
Dude scored 35 goals last year - I feel a lot of people undervalued him, and under-appreciate just how good his underlying numbers are.
I wonder if the term was player or gm's preference? Risky for the player. I would have thought he'd want term. He's already 26. If he doesn't keep putting up 30 plus goals this could be his biggest payday. Maybe this is why Tre didn't want to go long. That or he just needed to keep him under 6 million and 3 years was the only way to do it.
Edit. Reading AC's point on Mangiapane's agent talking 7 million plus, this 3 year deal makes sense from the Flames point of view.
For those saying term wasn’t long enough…. His agent has been saying that after this year he thought mangi would be getting $7 million plus. There was no way they were going to get any more term at $5.8 million. Good signing. Really hope they put him in wing on top line and gets 1st pp time.
