That's a really tough draw for Mattea. Andrew and Eric are great players who will bet big on Daily Doubles. That game is a toss-up
The exhibition game was pretty great television

Wow Andrew with huge guts tonight
Finds a daily double and bets it all to go up big
Then does it again moments later
Love seeing the bold play
Not the final 3 we expected. Two of the 3 big ones gone
But worth noting Steve Martin is undefeated

Was scared for Andrew after he paused on that 3rd daily double. I was thinking, just say the Bronte sisters if you don't know the answer
Remember that Andrew had a lead against Amy going into Final Jeopardy in Amy's first game, her streak almost never happened. Disappointed that Matt and Mattea lost, but I'm excited to see Andrew and Amy rematch in a best of 7 series.
Sam might be the best player of the tournament so far though, he seems extremely quick on the buzzer.

Andrew with balls of steel, that was crazy.
Sam took control of that game, Matt looked off. Finals should be fun!

This final has been phenomenal. I thought for sure Amy had it wrapped up but Sam pulled it out. Can’t wait for Monday.

Well now I don't know if I can go to bed. Drove all evening, grabbed a beer and watched Jeopardy on the PVR (sorry ladies, I'm taken!)
I'm pumped Sam won. I'd love for him to storm back. He's not as good as Amy on the buzzer unfortunately.
I'm cheering for Sam, then Andrew, then Amy. Don't take that as I dislike Amy, I don't. I just like the other two better.
I mean, how can you not love Sam?

Amy has been betting conservatively in final jeopardy knowing that the questions are way tougher and the success rate lower. But by failing to bet on herself she missed clinching.
Andrew knows that on pure knowledge he's probably the weakest so he has to be aggressive. He gets that 2nd daily double and it's his. He's made a couple of bad bets in final jeopardy when going in last. The strategy there should be to bet not much and hope the others get it wrong.
Sam has been more aggressive in final jeopardy and it's cost him. But he's playing to win.
I would say Amy isn't going to let that happen again. She's not going to lose getting a question right but betting too little. If I'm Andrew/Sam I know going into Game 6 that she's going all in for Final.
Great series. 3 great contestants and a ton of fun.

On Friday, Amy bet to ensure Andrew couldn't win and clinch the tournament. In this style of tournament, that was probably the right play, even though it cost her the one game.
If the point spread is the same on Monday, I'd expect her to bet similarly even if it forces a game 7.

The bet made perfect sense;
without knowing the question or the others guys bets she was 50-50 win or live to play another day.
With a bigger bet she was 62.5-25-12.5, Win-Live on-Lose. Gave up a 1/8 chance of winning to eliminate a 1/8 chance that Andrew would take it that day. But still had a good chance of winning the day.

What a great tournament. Andrew really pushes the other players with his aggressive all-in style. It makes the games much more intense and interesting.

But it should be treated more like poker where odds incorporate the hand you’re holding. Except on jeopardy the hand you’re holding is your knowledge, instead of hole cards.
When factoring in her chances of a correct answer in the category, and final jeopardy in general, I feel like betting to cover off both would have been worth it. Although maybe my faith in her for the category was higher than she’d rate herself.
Or maybe she thought Sam had a junk hand and the only person she needed to beat was Andrew.
Still, always get on yourself when you’re that smart.

In an interview one time Jennings said, and I might be paraphrasing "there is no such thing as a difficult trivia question, either you know the answer and it's easy or you don't know the answer and it's hard".
This is where final jeopardy and betting before you know the answer can be a challenge, mostly players place bets purely on the numbers assuming all 8 scenarios are equally likely, and the only gamesmenship is assumptions about how much other players will bet.
From her perspective, these were the game scenarios
answers * small bet * big bet
right-right-right * another game * win
right-wrong-right * another game * win
right-wrong-wrong * win * win
right-right-wrong * win * win
wrong-right-right * another game * another game
wrong-right-wrong * win * lose
wrong-wrong-right * another game * another game
wrong-wrong-wrong * win * ? probably win
by making the small bet she got rid of the opportunity for a lose or for a wild card unknown resolution before knowing if the question was "easy" or "hard".

I don’t see how trivia being binary matters. If anything it supports my point. She’s more likely than not to know the answer so betting as if she’ll get it makes sense.
The scenarios aren’t the issue here. I’m aware of what happened by betting small and what her strategy was.
I’m saying giving up potential wins to avoid a loss and force another game isn’t as beneficial as you’re making it out to be. She’s right more often than not, she shouldn’t be playing not to lose.
It also doesn’t factor in her ability to win next game. Andrew won’t likely blow a daily double like he did yesterday. I think the risk of betting big yesterday was a better chance than going into another game on Monday. She’s not likely, imo, to have another large lead over Andrew like that with such a clear chance to end it.
I think she should’ve bet to cover them both, not just Andrew. But who knows, maybe she likes her chances on any given day against Andrew/Sam and thought it was a good risk to take. She also may not have liked the category.
If Andrew wins Monday, this bet will be why she didn’t win.
She’s 31/48 lifetime in final jeopardy. She’s only 2/5 against her current competition (2/4 at the time she made the bet).
Unless she didn’t like the category or was counting on Sam getting it wrong (which is a bad read imo), getting on herself getting final right, is a better bet than playing again.

Yeah I thought that was a super easy ToC final Jeopardy! Was surprised when all 3 contestants didn’t get it.
