That's my point. College UFA's are a special breed. They play their first pro game at 22-23 years old. There is an adjustment period regardless of if your 19 or 23. One pro season is too soon to declare someone a tweener.
Hathaway seemed to be the model of consistency on that AHL squad. I'm not declaring him NHL caliber, but i've seen him make and finish some great plays so I'm not willing to write him off yet.
It's not like the Flames of old had drafted many NCAA players or signed NCAA UFA's. Things seem to be working out for the Flames ever since they joined the NCAA train.
