Gaudreau is a vastly superior skater, a better passer, has a better shot, thinks the game better, and plays the game at a higher tempo. Its why Gaudreau has played 621 games and has 627 points under his belt why Phillips has played one and is still in search of a real opportunity to stick in the NHL.
So just to clarify your assertion:
- Phillips is not a strong skater, and wouldn't be one of the quicker players on the Calgary Flames
- Phillips is not a strong passer, and wouldn't be one of the bettef passers on the Calgary Flames
- Phillips does not think the game as well as the players on the Calgary Flames
- Phillips does not play the game at a tempo as high as the players on the Calgary Flames
is that correct? Those are the attribute Phillips lacks in order to succeed in Darryl Sutter's system and style of play?

I’d be very happy with that line. I’m fine with that being Zary instead as well. I think Kadri just needs to be with good offensive players and then Dube can helm up the new fourth line. Or Coleman tbh as well if they figure Dube does better with Backlund. But I think Dube as head of the energy line with Lewis/Ritchie would be okay.

Yes. You catch on quick. If Phillips were all that and the bag of chips you're building him up to be he would be playing for the Calgary Flames or have been claimed when he was sent through waivers. 32 teams don't think he's the player you're claiming him to be or he would be in the NHL at this moment, regardless of the system being played.
Yeesh Lanny. I don’t think people in here are thinking that Phillips is gonna come in and be Johnny 2.0. It’s just there’s obviously been a shift in the NHL over the past 20 years that has allowed smaller forwards to be able to thrive in the league. Even at his size Phillips has skills that todays NHL thrives on (speed and puck carrying ability) and his play in the AHL has shown that he should be given a shot at the NHL level. He could very well be a career AHLer, but we’re never gonna know that unless he’s given a chance in the NHL

Lots of guys pass waivers when its the season start. Nobody truly knows what other peoples junk becomes treasure until their hand is truly forced. Kid deserves a shot.

Don't really understand the reluctance to give this guy a shot.
Nobody is saying bring him up and keep him up no matter how it goes. But it doesn't make sense to not give this kid his chance. He may have had a so so preseason and we can argue about how much of a chance he was really given and how that nobody really looked great in preseason either...but since that time, he has gone out and made the most of everything. It seems like he has done exactly what you want him to do, and more. If you don't give a guy like him a shot, what exactly are you waiting to see? I get that he's small, but he is also on the last year of a contract with us, likely to jump ship as we haven't given him his shot...lets find out what he is capable of.

I'm at the point where I'd like to see Gilbert go back down (no need for 8 defense) and Phillips come up and play with Huberdeau and Backlund. Backlund is a rookie whisperer, and Huberdeau would be ecstatic to have a winger that hasn't played dump and chase all year.
I'd also like to see Rooney traded/waived and Ben Jones called up to play the fourth line. He has more energy than anyone playing on that line right now, and can go to the tough places on the ice. A duo of Dube-Jones and a rotation of Ritchie/Lewis/Lucic on the other wing could actually deserve 12 minutes of icetime a night.

He's going to be A UFA at the end of this season. Why waste a draft pick on him when you're not willing to give him an opportunity? Yeesh.
Hopefully he gets the call now that they're back at home.
Gilbert is already down. He's on the ice for the Wranglers as I type this

Well, that's one empty roster spot just sitting there!
