About what you'd expect when the best team in baseball plays the 12th best team in baseball: Men vs. Boys. If Verlander doesn't choke game 1 and McCullers isn't tipping pitches in game 3 this would have been a sweep.

Well that was incredible, what a fun game. A no doubter to straight away center, it was berserk in there.
I might have given MVP to a pitcher, Framber or Pressly just because it was pitching that win this thing. 2 earned runs from the starters in last 3 games.

Had to let guys like Springer, Correa and Cole walk as free agents, still winning World Series' titles and putting up 100+ win seasons.

One of baseball’s all time greats.... he's been washed up for awhile though.
@MLB:
One last ride.
Miguel Cabrera has announced that the 2023 season will be his last.

Never really care for these announced season long farewells on any sport for stars, seems too self serving...going into every away stadium and each team feels like they have to give him some video tribute or cheesy retirement gift.
The way they Gretzky did it is the best. A few weeks notice, allow the team to prepare a farewell and play a few games at home, and maybe a few games on the road. Though when he started the season he probably wasn't sure if it was his final year (he got hurt around the time he played in Calgary and didn't play again for a couple weeks after that game, and then announced he was to be done).

The Jeter and Ortiz farewells were the worst of the worst. Can’t see there being that much fanfare for Cabrera. He and the Tigers have been completely irrelevant for the better part of a decade now. Unless he pulls out some pujolsesque magic that is. Speaking of Pujols. Funny how no one really pulled out the red carpet for him. Except for the fans. The fans knew how good the machine was.

Will be interesting to see where JV goes. Astros have a threshold they won't go past for every player so someone could definitely sign him. I understand he is keenly focused on 300 wins which won't be easy given his age. He will need a good offense and strong bullpen around him.
Verlander might be the last pitcher to ever record 300 wins if he can do it. Unless they change the rules.

That deal is going to be terrible for the Rangers. He’s 34 and has averaged less than 80 innings per season over the last three seasons.

Just stupid contract by a stupid franchise. They have literally no sense when it comes to FA. Which would be okay if they had a good farm system but that’s been historically terrible too.

And here I was thinking this year those crazy contracts wouldn't be handed out. That's nuts. He has a high ceiling but just can't stay healthy and isn't very young. Bad decisions.

Rangers showing again they don't seem to know how to build a winner.
Sounds like Verlander insisting on a 3 year deal and Astros not willing to go there. I don't believe Blue Jays are in play here but if you were a team like Toronto would you give JV a three year deal?

One can make the argument that they were a very unlucky team last year. They lost a whole bunch but probably should have been a 75 win team and not too bad. So there is some reason for optimism and starting pitching is a big need. However it’s a badly run franchise. Despite last making the playoffs in 2016 (when the Jays thumped them three straight) they have finished no better than third since and that was once. Most often they’ve finished fifth. And it’s about to be the 2023 season and looking at their farm system it’s like between 6-12. Like what the hell are they doing that they suck for so long yet can’t get a good farm system. In contrast the Jays had a top 3 farm system after like 2019 despite starting the decline around the same time. Just a badly run franchise compared to their in state neighbours.
Edit: they can compete with the angels next year to figure out who gets to be the sad third place team behind Houston and Seattle.

Not going to disagree with the farm system in Texas. They did just relieve Jon Daniels of his duties.
Rangers were like 3 and 54 in one run games last year. If they went .500 tin those games they'd have easily been in the playoffs.
Not having a farm means buying your way into the show. I don't think they're done yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they land Verlander or Rendon.

They were a -36 run differential team. They should have been a 75-82 win team or so. Yes they were unlucky but they were also not that good either. They were not easily a playoff team. They still would have finished behind Houston and Seattle.
