Going Sieloff over a Hathaway, Carroll and Kanzig.

He's fallen, but too early to right the guy off.

Between Carroll and Sieloff for me. Went with Carroll who I hope will surprise people.

Hathaway for me. In my eyes his chances of making the team are better than Sieloffs.

Kanzig after that. That size combined with smarts and a good attitude for learning makes for exciting potential.

Picked Kanzig, as our 22 best prospect its a crap shoot. 1 think we know for sure is he has size.

How Carroll has not been ranked by now blows my mind. He was at camp until the bitter end last fall, not much different than the Jooris situation last year, yet younger. I feel when we look back on this list in a few years, maybe sooner we will all wonder how we ranked this guy so low.

Hathaway for me. Lots of heart and determination is what gives middling prospects a chance at the NHL. Hathaway seems to have an abundance of those qualities.

I put a lot of thought into my list this year. Deciding what my definition of a prospect is. For me Shore and Nakladal are prospects but that's neither here nor there. I vowed not to get swayed too much by draft position or a good development camp. I looked at what weight I give to factors like upside, NHL readiness, year-to-year progression (most important), character, team needs etc. And I think I made a good list. Better than all of yours I'm sure

However in the case of Sieloff I have violated the list's integrity. I really want him to succeed. I want a player of his best-case-scenario on the team.I fear he isn't going to get there though and this is the last time he is truly considered a possible NHLer. I think the evidence suggests the combination of injuries, lack of development time and just not quite enough skill mean he is going to fall short

Voted for him a couple of times now though. I hope he has that great year and is on the team next year or at least very much in the mix.

I've been voting Seiloff for some time now. Looks to be a close race.

Went with Carrol, seems like a solid depth forward who has attributes allowing him to make it even if his point contributions don't translate at the NHL level.

could have gone with Sieloff also. Crazy how much a 2nd round pick has dropped. His dev stalled due to injuries, and unfortunately, he hasn't been in games enough to determine if he can be effective at his game at his size. Think he could easily be the biggest gainer after camp or by xmas on this entire list.

Went Hathaway

Would probably follow with Carroll, Gilmour, Elson then Kanzig

Seiloff for me has just fallen too far. He was being played as a RW at the end of last season which says a lot about his future as a D-man.

Won't lie I find it tough to separate Carroll, Kanzig and Hathaway. All good stories about good people doing good things for a good organization.

Sieloff was drafted the same year as Jankowski... He is 5 months older than the incredibly young for his draft year Jankowski. He missed a full year of athletic activity and a year of development due to recovery from a freak infection.

I am certainly pleased that the Flames gave Ferland more chances after his 20th birthday.

No one has even remotely classified Jankowski as a make or break year as he better be the #1c and top 2 scorer on his team and a Hobey baker finalist (one of the top 10) or he has missed his NHL opportunity.

While it is true that If Sieloff has the same kind of year as he did last year then he will no longer be a serious prospect.... But that is the same as basically every prospect in the Flames organization....

If Jankowski remains as the #3C and 5th highest scorer on his team the Flames will surely opt for a 2nd round pick in 2017. He is expected to do more.

If Kulak and Culkin are not at least regular top-4 d-men at the AHL level.

If Wotherspoon remains too scary for Hartley to play as a #6 NHL d-man

The clock is ticking for all the prospects... The guys 21 years old and younger should have a few more chances left.

I don't think that if Poirier gets dinged in training camp and has a mediocre season that the Flames will give up on him.

Are you basing this off anything other then camp last year? He was a 7th round pick who played as an overager last season. He put up reasonable numbers as expected.

Didn't Carroll have the option to play in the AHL instead of going back to Junior? That may have been why he was kept up so long.

Went with Kanzig over Hathaway, Carroll and Sieloff. He made huge strides this year on his skating and I feel like he has the highest ceiling.

He's got the size and determination. If he can keep the progressing on his skating and maybe add an offensive side to his game he could be damn good.

You would think that Sieloff was sleeping with my wife from the number of anti-Seiloff rants I've had... but I have nothing against him personally. I just don't see what others see in him.

Did you know he has 6 goals and 16 assists in his last FIVE years of hockey? Yup, 22 points in five years. 4.4 points per year in the minor leagues. No-one with that poor of offensive talent ever makes the NHL. Joni Ortio has 6 points in that same time frame for comparison.

Slight nitpick but he has put up a few more points than that:

Also on a slight tangent, the Flames under Treliving have yet to draft (yes only 2 years thus far I know) a stay at home defenceman with limited offensive upside in the early or mid rounds. Ollas-Mattson and Bruce have been late round picks and there have been a few tryouts (Yevenko, Prolux, etc).

Quickly scanning Phoenix's draft record while Treliving was there, they didn't seem to pick any of those type of players either unless they were late round.

Perhaps that trend will continue.
