I wonder if there is any chance Basha would get in next round? The report has been a “late playoff” comeback. I assume WHL finals or Memorial Cup at best.

There is certainly a chance Basha is back in round 3, especially the deeper it goes.

Is it strange we didn’t hear anything about Luke Misa? I assume either an indication of pursuing NCAA or he would have signed an ATO with the Wranglers?

Misa is 20 in Nov, so eligible to play in the AHL next season. Would make sense to keep options open, attend Dev camp and rookie camp to see if he is ready to turn pro. If not, he hasn't signed a pro contract, so could go the NCAA route. I would assume, but don't really know, that signing an ATO would make him ineligible for NCAA

20 (AHL eligible) but a smaller guy. I wouldn’t hate the NCAA route for him to play better competition and focus on the gym with the lighter schedule.

NCAA spots are filling up quickly. He'd have to commit to a school soon. Deadline is August 1.

Apr.22nd:

Barrie eliminates Kingston in 7 games, after beating them 6-4 tonight, with D Kashawn Aitcheson named first star, with 2g and 1a- including the game-winning goal. Battaglia had no points, and was a woeful -3, finishing the playoffs 13th in scoring with 11gp/3g/13a/16pts,+5, 8 PIM.

Everett is eliminated by the Winterhawks, after losing 4-2 tonight. Jamieson gets 1a, and was +1, for 13gp/1g/3a/4pts,-1, 10 PIM.

Flames prospects still in the playoffs are Hurtig (they play game #7 against Lethbridge tomorrow), Basha (possibly, Medicine Hat is moving on to round 3 after sweeping the Raiders), Morin, and Gridin.

I wonder where Hurtig plays next season. Won't he be both an import and an over-ager in the WHL?

I guess it depends how much the Hitmen want him. Teams are allowed 3 overagers, and 2 Imports, so Hurtig would cover 1 spot in each category....

The Hitmen are looking really thin on the back-end for next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hurtig return next year as an overager.

On the current team, Parker will be aged out of junior. Mynio and Yakemchuk will likely graduate to the AHL. They don't have have any other players of note that would worth using an overager spot on besides Tulk and maybe Dax Williams.

Edit: Tulk won't be returning because he committed to Wisconsin in the NCAA.

Persistent rumour is CHL is expanding to three imports per team for next season.

Hurtig's rights are held until 2027. Does that change if he plays next year in say, AllSvenskan or the SHL?

He's a big boy, he could play in a mens league.

Is he a possibility for the Wranglers?

Could see Yan Kuznetsov graduate to the NHL next season, and Hurtig could fill his role on the wranglers.

IMO Kuznetsov is a slept on prospect. Pretty good showing this year in the AHL as a consistent minute munching d-first guy.

I imagine the Flames are moving on from Lipinski. Has anyone heard differently?

Some of these junior kids should be, at the very least, Wrangler Black Aces at this time of year.
