Let’s start connecting the dots here:

Eichel trade ramping up
Monahan, Valimaki sitting
Dube lining up at center.

When those dots are connected. Monahan, Valimaki, 1st, 2nd, +? For Eichel

Only works if Sutter is comfortable with Dube at Center. Because Eichel ain't playing this year.

Also means, in my opinion we will lose one of Tkachuk or Gaudreau at the end of this season only because paying 3 players 9m + isn't close to an ideal situation to balance a team.

Add in expected raises for at least 3 other players, things get tight real quick.

That is where I think signing Gaudreau is key because Tkachuk can certainly be traded for assets being an RFA and Johnny would just walk. Could help the flames recoup futures lost in the Eichel deal.

Steinberg wants the Flames to go after Eichel Nault doesn’t think they should touch him with a 10 foot pole. Talks mentioned that the Flames have been one of the most consistent teams in the mix so far but not sure if they are still in it

Odd right? Wouldn't you think that Monahan should be playing to get up to game speed? Id have Valimaki playing over Tanev at this point too because of the competition for the final 3-4 D spots. Dube at Centre is interesting too, means they are looking at that option.

I am curious what this means, too much coincidence here. Monahan has to know that he could be flipped too if he lands in Buffalo and his contract is almost up. I think he just cares about playing enough to rack up points to get another sizeable contract.

When you put it altogether it can paint a narrative the Flames are still in the mix. Playing Dube at center could be something they need to do for 3/4 of the season if they make a trade. Kylington becomes so much more important now and in the future if Valimaki is moved.

I could see Monahan flipped to a third team for cap dumps and futures.

Funny how earlier in the process people would have laughed at a package like that but I think it is very close. I think it could be just Monahan, Valimaki and a 1st. May be just haggling over pick protection.

Or maybe Monahan is just injured and Valimaki hasn't beaten out Kylington for a spot yet.

Buffalo is clearly in full rebuild mode. Probably looking at guys like Wright and Bedard to go with the young guys they have. This looks like it’s going to be a 2 to 3 year plan at least. Isn’t it safe to assume over the next few years they can add picks for expiring contracts? They are already up a 1st in 22 and 2nd in 23. At what point does Buffalo move off the 4 1st round equivalent pieces to get 2 or 3 pieces that might be more higher quality pieces. They should be all in on quality over quantity.

If the ask is Tkachuk valimaki Pelletier and a first why not ask for less but get the first not lottery protected? I’d rather take Tkachuk and flames not lottery protected than take all 4 pieces. Flames pick could be top 10 and reasonable shot at first overall especially if Eichel misses most the season.

Buffalo could flip Tkachuk to the blues for tarasenko neighbour’s and a 1st.

Buffalo also has tons of cap space. Why not use that as an asset. Can they they flip tarasenko 50 percent salary retained to a contender for a couple firsts? They could sit on this until the deadline or next summer too and hope tarasenko returns to his old form.

I just feel they have way more to gain making something happen now rather than dragging this out any longer

Will Nault has never had a good take in his life though, so that's not surprising that he wouldn't want them to trade for Eichel.

Something tells me we will be in on this Buffalo trade but we will be part of the transaction as a 3rd party to facilitate trade with suitor. Bridesmaid

If the package is Monahan + Coronato + Valimaki + 22 1st (unprotected)+22 2nd (FLA)

Would you do it?

Do that in a heartbeat, and would add Peltier or Zary if needed

If the Flames could turn that Monahan + futures for Eichel they should really work to close that Gaudreau extension and go all in this year and hope the team gets a healthy Eichel for the stretch drive and see what they can do. Then in the summer trading Tkachuk for futures makes sense as the cap space would be really tough to find and this team would need the futures.

I would personally drive all of them to Buffalo to make that work.

No. Remove the 2nd, and make the pick top 5 protected and it's closer.

This team minus Monahan (and no Eichel for the year) is one key injury away from being in the Shane Wright sweepstakes.

Nault at least isn't afraid to criticize this team and its history of mediocrity.
