Default Football or Hockey Town?

Compared to the Stampeders, how popular are the Flames and do people in this city care about each team equally? The Stamps usually get great crowds and I always thought of Calgary as more of a Football town. Thoughts?

Stamps are okay but get real here, Stamps were just in the west final...remember the last time the Flames were in the west final? night and day

Pandemonium in the streets in 04 after the Flames won a single playoff series

I think the ratio would be like 95:1 care factor in favour of the Flames.

For how good the Stamps were this year I'd call their crowds "ok". Certainly they were not great crowds.

no kidding, if the Flames were first overall people would be pretty excited

half the crowd is from Sask anyway...they don't have any real professional teams to cheer for so they don't know any better

Canada is always a hockey first country, every other sport is secondary, from TV ratings CFL is second place.

I would say there are more hardcore NFL fans in Calgary than CFL fans. The CFL is horrible, and the only reason it is popular is because TSN tells people it is. There has never been a league with more manufactured hype. That being said, even the most hardcore, loyal Stamps fan would still probably prefer the NHL over the CFL.

These threads of yours are awesome, so simple to answer. Lets recap:

Will Calgary support a rebuild? Yes
Will Mike Cammalleri make Team Canada? No
Hockey town or Football town? Hockey town.

All three threads done in one post. Maybe you should add a few more grade 5 questions in here so we don't have to deal with more of these threads. Or create an explain to me like I'm 5 thread if you really need answers to these burning topical questions of yours.

I kinda actually agree with the OP even though he's trolling.

I've always thought Calgary was a overrated hockey town. There does seem to be a lot of diehard CFL fans and especially NFL fans. Don't think it's far fetched to think football is more popular in Calgary.

I'll bet you, you're wrong! Go look at tv ratings. the NFL can't touch the CFL even if you included the american feeds.

Flames > Stamps but
CFL > NHL

I would watch Winnipeg vs Sask anyday over Carolina vs Florida.

If the Flames AHL team was in Cgy, they would have better crowds than Stamps. CFL is just not as exciting unless you're from Sask.
