Yup, it sounds like an amicable split. I wouldn’t be surprised if he just wants a nice long break due to wear and tear. Cameron is in his early 60s, and being a drummer can be tough on the body. He’ll definitely be missed though. Best drummer to ever sit behind the kit for those guys IMO.
I wonder if they might hire someone like Josh Freese as a replacement since he’s no longer with the Foo Fighters and is likely available.
Jon Wurster left Superchunk, but is still drumming for Bob Mould I think.
He'd fit in nicely with the PJ guys. Bob tours a lot, but not always with the full band, so Jon could do double duty in both bands. Cameron did it for a few years in the mid-2000s when he was shuffling back and forth between Pearl Jam and Soundgarden tours.

Wurster also plays in The Mountain Goats. It’s crazy that he toured with three bands before he left Superchunk. I’d be happy for him if he got the PJ gig but I’d prefer it if he stuck with Bob and John.
He also makes hilarious calls on The Best Show every week. Philly Boy Roy owns.
I remember a quote from Billy Corgan saying he and Jimmy Chamberlain were in awe of Matt and he was the bar they measured against when it came to drumming.
The news yesterday sent me down a 2 hour Soundgarden rabbit hole. Haven't played them in a while, what a great band. Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are just incredible albums.

Says they are gonna use a drum machine now? That true or twitter nonsense.
Haha, no. They'll get a real drummer. Cameron leaves some massive shoes to fill, but there are plenty of guys out there who could do the job for the next couple of years, or however long the band decides to stick together.
Cameron was way overqualified for Pearl Jam, never liked him in that position. Playing Soundgarden material he's one of my favorite drummers of all time, guy is incredible.

What a run, in 2 of the best bands of his generation. I still think of Cameron as the newer drummer for PJ, but its been 27 years lol.
I do wonder how long the band will keep going, they've been touring fairly relentlessly over the years, and play long shows. Not a surprise some of them might want to slow it down at their age now.
