Not too many hits but David Rittich certainly worked out. Might as well keep casting the net.

Some interesting facts. Ran this through Google Translate.
Quote:
Carl-Johan Lerby, Malmö Redhawks, receives a rebuke, because immediately after the urine test at Malmö arena, November 24, 2016, after the match against Brynäs, he sent in a certificate stating that he has asthma. Something he simply had forgotten to do before.
The team's doctor Fredrik Nyquist and Malmö Redhawks osteopath, Niklas Torpling submitted the certificate.
- They've helped me with all the papers. So it is in order now, says Lerby, who without his medicine cannot exercise the sport.
- Especially not because I have effort strain. The medicine is a direct necessity, explains Lerby.
Lerby received a reprimand
Thus, one chose not to allow the case to pass on to the doping committee, which usually delivers punishment, but satisfied with reprimand.
Carl-Johan Lerby makes his first season as A-teamback in Malmö Redhawks.
After an autumn that started in the Allsvenska Pantern, he has taken a fixed place in Malmö's back crew and cuts just over 12 minutes of playing time per match.
In December, he wrote on an extension of his contract with Malmö, which applies over the 2017/2018 season and the 19-year-old recently made his first SHL goal when he set the management goal for Redhawks in the away game against Brynäs.

With a lack of picks, the Flames really needed to do this to get something into the organization. Most of the guys they signed are basically the equivalent of 4th-6th round selections, but might have enough there to maybe make the NHL.
Worth the risk. Free is always good.

Lerby interview after signing:
http://www.hockeysverige.se/2019/05/...l-johan-lerby/
translation via google
Quote:
During the season, Calgary contacted my agent. Then we talked during the season, and it became clear today.
However, the contract does not mean an immediate move to Canada. The parties have agreed to lend Lerby to Malmö next season.
- We discussed what would be best for me and then we arrived at it. To play a lot and develop here in Malmö would be best for me, we came up with.
What are you going to develop in Malmö next season?
- It is good to continue as the previous season, but to develop small things. The shot, the passages, the game in the defense zone. To be a little more hefty all over the track.
|
Quote:
Is Calgary a Favorite Team for You?
- I haven't actually had any favorite team during my upbringing, but I've been watching Calgary since we started discussing and I think it's a team that is heading in the right direction. Good team, good player. It feels like a good organization to come to.

Quote:
Lerby, who had 21 points (5G, 16A) in 47 games this year, will remain with the RedHawks for the upcoming season before his entry-level pact kicks in with the Flames in the fall of 2020.
"Our European staff, led by (Head European Pro Scout) Hakan Loob, (Director, Pro Personnel) Derek MacKinnon and (Assistant General Manager) Craig Conroy, identified this player early in the season and they stayed on top of his progression all year," said Senior VP of Hockey Operations, Don Maloney.
"He's a player that needs more development time; some time to thicken up and mature, physically.
"But we felt strongly that if we didn't act, now a year from now he would become one of, if not the, top European free-agent signings."
Lerby - like Heiskanen - is in the mold of the 'modern-day' defenceman we, the media, wax on about at length.
He's fast, moves the puck well, can operate a powerplay, and most of all, has an incredibly high hockey IQ that allows him to make plays under pressure.
A classic late-bloomer, who overcame all sorts of odds to get here
|
Quote:
"What we saw this year and what we believe we'll continue to see again next year as he continues to develop, is a resounding 'yes.'
"We saw an opportunity strike while the iron was hot. If you have a chance to get ahead of it, get ahead of it."
Part of the attraction, Maloney says, in Lerby signing here was how Andersson - a fellow client of longtime agent Claude Lemieux - has developed under the Flames' watch.
"They saw how we developed Rasmus," Maloney said. "He spent some time in the minors, improved his game, came up and is now a very important player for us.
"That's the opportunity a lot of young players seek.
"And they want to be brought up the right way."
|
Quote:
"There was a time, not long ago, when you wouldn't pay any attention to a player like this," Maloney said. "The guys that were big but couldn't skate all that well, would spend five years in the minors, and never really have a chance to play.
"Nowadays, you have to have certain qualities. You have to be able to skate, and you have to be able to think.
"(Lerby) has both.
"We also believe that we, as an organization, can have an influence on those qualities and help take them to the next level.

So his two-year ELC begins in 2020-21? Interesting, didn't know you could do that.

I can't recall, will his signing count against the 50 max contracts even if he's playing overseas?

Well if the contract doesn't start until fall 2020 it won't count towards the 50 contract limit until it starts.
If it started this year and he played in Sweden it would have counted.

Maybe its just me but the Flames scouting focus seems to be Europe for a while now. Say after the influx of the NCAA flood we had a few years ago. I like it. For a long time it seemed if you didnt live or play in north america, Flames didnt know your name.

And a wide variety of pro leagues at that: German, Czech, Swedish, Russian. The scouts are getting around.

CapFriendly's confirmed contract details has the contract starting in 19/20 with a European contract clause.
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/carl-johan-lerby
This lines up with what I previously understood about contracts. From what I understood you couldn't sign an UFA to a contract that starts in 20/21 yet. It also means the 1st year of his ELC will be used up playing in Sweden.
Also of note, Lerby is getting rookie max base salary and signing bonus.

Interesting is that Lerby is in Calgary right now according to Rasmus Anderson’s Instagram.
I kind of thought he would just be playing on Sweden due to COVID but could be an indication the Flames could see him as an option with the main club this year.

Stockton I would guess.
He is way down the LS/LD chart when it comes to the main club.
