I know, but it is extremely overused thanks to GOT. Every stupid blog article or comment section has someone pretending they are clever using the phrase, and while it may be true, it's not particularly insightful.
Like, ya, the main character isn't going to die becuase they are the main character that the story is focusing on. It wouldn't be much of a story if you just killed off all the characters with a back story that you had invested 8 season in. So big insight there. If Danny had survived we'd be hearing she is protected by plot armour.
At least we haven't seen the term "Mary Sue" a lot when it comes to GOT. That one also annoys me.

I kind of think he was a very honorable man but I don't know if he had the smarts to long term be a successful king. He seems like a man too trusting and easily manipulated. The good thing about Bran is that because of his vision he's always going to know the political angles and would not easily get manipulated.
Jon would have been a good king for his moral leadership, supported by Sansa's politicking, Bran's omniscience and Arya's ability to pick off any rivals as needed. They would have been a formidable team with a strong moral rudder. Jon wouldn't need to be smart as long as he exercised good judgment.

So, if I've got this right, Game of Thrones was the universe's most epic story about the struggle between the Lord of Light and the Night King.
But what we got to see for 8 seasons on TV was a bunch of little side missions by the secondary characters.

That’s an oversimplification but you’re not far off from what I’d consider the general sentiment of book readers with respect to one of the overarching themes of the series.

How has that worked out with Trudeau? If your leader isn't a smart man/woman things are probably going to end badly.
I just finished the last season. IMO the finale is nowhere near as bad as others have said it is. Some people's expectations are way too high. Along with the media hype and fact it's the #1 show ever, there was never going to be an ending that pleased everyone. So the only way to pull it off is to do the ''right'' ending.
I felt all the storylines got completed in the correct manner, and in the end there wasn't a whole lot to choose from after Bran got chosen. But the speech Tyrion gave made complete sense. The humour they tried to pull was stupid though.
I also didn't like how Drogon didn't kill Jon. His mother just got murdered and you see the guy who did it in the aftermath. How do you let one single man go after you just butchered an entire city earlier? I guess he was sick of all the killing too. It's the only explanation that makes sense in my mind.
But I think as a whole, the ending was good. Definitely not worth the ~4 rating from IMDB. That's just dumb and it's obvious by the low rating and the significantly increased number of votes compared to other episodes, that people are just voting out of anger. The Dexter finale has the same rating FFS, and that was easily 100x worse.

To me Drogons response was really great. It shows that Dragons have some intelligence an understand. He clearly knew the throne was the source of all the suffering and killing he has been surrounded by. His mother and 2 brothers all died chasing it... very fitting to me that he melted it down in anger before flying away with his mom in claw.
