Anyone remember the ridiculous elimination qualifying they tried for like 5 minutes about 4 or 5 years ago?
After the red flag was the drama it was supposed to produce. New idea. Each qually session should only be projected pole + 15s. Makes things wild!

Umm, so that was a shock when I turned it on and saw full stands of people. I figured there was a delay and they were showing 2019 or something.

Alrighty, here are the standings...not much change but Fuzz moves up to 4th and Arsenal14 breaks the tie for 2nd with Jayswin with the top score of the week. Not the best showing for the group as Hamilton had the race if his team didn't let him do 2 pit exit starts.
No idea why they thought they could do that. It really was a bit dangerous. The race itself was a bit of a parade, but there was some great battles after the first lap with Norris/Russell/Albon all fighting away at the back. Albon looks broken though. I know RBR is a meat grinder, but he's starting to fade like Gasly did. I fear he may lose that seat to Perez who has looked very good lately.
Leclerc drove the wheels off his Ferrari though and landing P6 was very impressive.
Next up...NURBURGRING!! Oh baby am I excited...there could be snow!! 12c is high for the week and rain. I'll predict at least 1 red flag.

Well get your game on this week! Talked to FALMESRULE and for this week top scorer for the Eiffel gets the Nurburgring keychain(see post #775). And I'm in country so it will ship to winner as soon as I'm allowed to go to the post office!
Top score, tie goes to most correct slots, then most right in top 10.
Anyone's week! Good luck!

Wow...shocking news this morning. Honda is pulling out after 2021. This not good obviously for RBR + TR (although I think they have to go back to Renault unless they find a new engine mfg)...but I kind of have a nagging fear this isnt good for F1 in general. Honda said it was because of the costs and their drive for carbon neutrality.
With Merc's participation being questioned, a terrible Ferrari engine, and Renault re-branding to Alpine I just dont know where the engine/ERS packages go for 2027. Maybe a standardized 1.0L ICE and then full freedom on batteries/ERS.

That's terrible news. The sport needs more manufacturers not less. We were just discussing this a few weeks back.

I think they’ll need to scramble to revise the current agreement. No way the sport survives with only 3 engine manufacturers for a half decade.
Simplify the engines and fast. Even getting rid of the mgu h would be a start.

Long term (15ish years) the only option for F1 is to eventually go electric. I just dont see any other option with the way EVs are progressing, the manufacturers are going to demand it. I see the hybrid era lasting for the next 2, maybe 3, agreements and then it'll be full electric. I wouldnt be surprised if we see an F1/FE merger of some sort eventually.

Really just leaves Red Bull with the option of going back to Renault. Mercedes already supplies 4 teams, and not sure anyone is in a rush to go to a Ferrari unit after this year

I’m not an engineer but my understanding is the mgu-k is road relevant and “easy” to develop, while the mgu-h is crazy complicated and very difficult to develop and it has minimal road car relevance.
So dropping just the one could attract new engine suppliers and allow them to develop towards full electric.
I also believe FE has a monopoly on full electric racing for the next 25 years or something. A merge would have to happen because F1 can’t go full electric while FE exists.
If it’s going to be a unique sport, ICE might be the way to go. Despite the environmental concerns. Or simplify the current hybrids. Nobody really wants full electric. Not fans or teams.

I thought I had seen the 2022 regulations drop the mgu-h. Sucks about Honda, they were just getting it together these past 2 seasons.
It will be awhile before they can go full electric. FE can do 45 minutes, at a much slower pace than F1. To get to a 2 hour race at F1 speeds is probably a decade away. But ultimately, that is where we will end up. Electric is just to powerful to ignore, and if they want to be the fastest car, they will have to be electric.
