I'm really tempted to go to Sled Island this year. My buddy went last year and said it was a blast.

Sled Island was amazing last year, one of the highlights of my year. I just picked up my early bird pass for 2013!

Someone on the Coachella boards emailed Thee Oh Sees touring manager? I think the touring manager, anyway...they emailed back that they are playing two festivals this year, Coachella and Sled Island! Don't know how much truth there is to it as anyone can post anything they want, but that's a pretty small band to just make a story like that up for. I haven't seen them live yet, so I hope they do come!

Is it worth while to get the Plus Pass? I went last year for 1 day and the lineup was absolutely ridiculous to get in. Does the line jumping also included food/drinks? Also does does it included a better area to view the stages?

What show was that? It depends on the artist and the venue, but I only encountered one line-up last year. If you can get to each venue early enough, you should not need a plus pass.
Friday they need volunteers for a Bingo, which will help you get a free pass.

What show had a line? I didn't wait in line once last year and I saw most of the big shows.
I heard you couldn't get into the comedy shows, but the plus pass wouldn't change anything if the venue was full...and I can't imagine there being a better viewing area, all the venues were just general admission

It was the Thursday show to get in the front gates. I must have waited over an hour and by the time it started moving the lineup was way over the bridge across the river towards Memorial.

You might be confusing Sled Island with another festival? X-Fest?

I got into one of the comedy shows that was lined up down the block only because I had the Plus Pass. I also skipped a huge line at the Legion one night. But in previous years I got into every show without an issue.
No, you don't get food or drinks, and once you're in the venue the Plus Pass doesn't give you a better spot to see the show.
It sounds like you're thinking of the Folk Fest anyway.

Does anyone know what format the passes come in? Are they wristbands or a card? Could I buy a pass and share it with someone?

Trust me when I say the lineup wasn't any better on the other side towards Eau Claire.

Volunteering would be interesting. Roughly how many hours do you need to put in?

Basically two 8 hour shifts gets you a pass.
I'm trying to finish my shifts before the Festival, so I don't have to work during the Festival. They periodically need people at Bingos and Casinos.
During the Festival you get to work at venues and see a lot of cool behind the scenes stuff (but you may miss out on a show you want to see). I worked a small show, and got to meet Nardwaur and Andrew WK.
Also, lots of hot ladies wearing glasses, yeah!

http://www.sledisland.com/slog/2013/...tor-maud-salvi
The Sled Island Arts Fellowship is thrilled to announce the appointment of Maud Salvi as its Executive Director!
Maud was most recently the Artistic Producer of the POP Montréal International Music Festival, where she gained valuable experience with all aspects of festival production and partnership development, and was able to witness first-hand the significant positive impact that community-focused music and arts festivals such as Pop Montréal and Sled Island have on their communities. Notably, while at Pop Montréal, Maud played an essential role in raising funds and establishing partnerships required to support a massive free outdoor show featuring Arcade Fire that celebrated the 10th anniversary of Pop Montréal and attracted over 100,000 people.
"Seeing Hot Snakes play Dicken’s last June was one of the musical highlights of my year. It was my first time coming to Sled Island and I remember thinking, “I could see myself working for this festival - but it’s in Calgary." I didn’t realize then that it was actually what made it so relevant. Over the course of this process, I started thinking of Calgary as a place of possibilities and the more I learn about the festival and soak up its spirit, I understand why Sled Island makes Calgarians so proud and the sense of ownership they feel over it. I am honoured and thrilled that the board of directors trusted me to fill this position and I am looking forward to meeting all the people who together make the festival what it is."
