Looking for a game to play with another couple, something medium-light. This is a relatively new group to board games, my wife loves Pandemic but we've played it so much I'd rather go another route. Games like Scythe or MoM 2nd are a bit above where I want to be with this group right now..
I was looking at something more medium like Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective. Anyone tried this out? It looks really fun, hard, but fun and very engaging for the whole group. I'd like the game to be completely co-op, no betrayer mechanic for now.
Edit : Ahh it appears SH is out of print right now anyway and is sold out in my city.. from what I can tell online the expansions don't do the original justice. I'd rather wait for the original to re print.. so yes now I am open to suggestions of any game lol.

Ticket to ride (original or Europe) is pretty foolproof for that situation.

Dead of Winter. You can play it 100% co-op with no betrayer and then when you are ready time to add in the fun :P
It does seem pretty intimidating with all of the moves you can make, but once you actually are playing it, it actually isn't complicated at all.

It's not a co-op though is it? I thought it was more of all 4 for all, we've already got one of those types to play that night.. I was looking for something where everyone works together towards the same goal.

I'm surprised by this list with things like Saboteur and and BANG! (only ones I've tried on this list)... They're team games which still require opponents, which I wouldn't call a true co-op game where it should be PvE
Not a "board" game, but Hanabi is a good one.
I like Timeline though there is still a PvP aspect to it, the end goal is still learning about history together.

Mansions of Madness Second Edition? I quite like Flash Point. It's a cooperative game where you each take on the role of a firefighter specialist with the goal of attempting to locate and rescue victims while managing a spreading fire and potential structural collapse. I think it's a lot of fun and it gets quite intense on the hardest difficulty.
Red November is similar to Flashpoint. You play as dwarfs in a submarine that is slowing failing and your job is to try to work together to solve compounding crises. This one can have some funny moments and there is one element of betrayal should your players choose it.
You could also check out Mysterium. I like going over the clues afterwards and seeing what the ghost was trying to communicate.

My favourite game, but "intimidating" is an understatement. For people who aren't frequent board game players the rules and options available and things you need to keep track of are downright daunting.

Just curious to where you guys buy your games, a brick and mortar store or online? I was going to grab a game at the Calgary expo but they seemed to add a chunk. I looked at Terra-forming Mars and it was $110 there.
I did find out that there is new (to me) game store on the corner of Southland and Elbow, just haven't had a chance to check it out.

I think I paid under $90 for Terraforming Mars here:
http://www.gamespeopleplay.ca/home.html
I try to support the brick and mortar stores - Revolution and Sentry Box offer points towards future purchases. Spend $100 at Revolution and get $10 credit. Not sure how the Sentry Box card works. Sentry Box has a good Boxing Day sale each year (but two games, get one free I think).
I did not know about the new store:

I'm in the deep south now, but all things considered, North Hill and The Sentry Box isn't that bad of a trek. Plus i get a little nostalgic going to The Sentry box, I remember going there when they were up in Marda Loop.

I haven't played it, but I backed it with some friends. Supposed to arrive in August. I think they hit just shy of 4 mill on the last round of kick starter, that's pretty impressive for a 100 dollar game.
Apparently it plays just as well if not better solo as it does with a group, and the encounters scale very easily based on the number of players. So if for instance one week Jim can't make it, that's ok you just use the color coded monster standees to determine its difficulty with X number of players instead.
Something like 96 scenarios wrapped up into the campaign with expected over 100 hours of play time if you want to do it all, pretty incredible.
I also don't mind the standee versus miniatures, as someone who paints minis it is VERY time consuming and frankly I'm already back logged enough. Standees also drop the price.

There is a surprisingly large selection of games at a weird little store in Westbrook mall.
I cannot remember what it is called, but it is just opposite Sportcheck.
Something gifts I think.

Sentry Box for impulse buys. Great selection, but not the best on price.

Imaginary Wars. Nice little place. Not nearly as much stock as the Sentry Box, but you should be able to find most popular games there.
If you're shopping for price, there are a couple excellent online retailers in Canada.
Boardgamebliss
Great Boardgames
Both are currently out of Terraforming Mars, but you can pre-order their next shipment at Great Boardgames for $63.95.
Games are typically 60-70 per cent of retail. Shipping is flat $12, free for orders over $200. I usually wait until I have a 4 or 5 games on my want list and place a large order.

Lot's of game buying options out there. In addition to those listed:
http://store.401games.ca/ (Out of Toronto. I use them often since their free shipping kicks in at $150)
http://www.meeplemart.com/
I also like using bookdepository.com. It's out of the UK and it's obviously a book store but they do carry some games. You can find quite a few Fantasy Flight titles (and expansions) on there and they are significantly less than even online stores here in Canada. The best part is that they offer free shipping for all their orders. The only thing that sucks is that shipping can be very slow.

If you're familiar with Mafia, it's very similar.
There's a town of mostly villagers with some people dealt werewolf cards. Werewolves kill people at night, everyones votes on people to die in the day, until one side eliminates the other. A variety of roles can be added to spice things up.
Works best in groups of about 9-15.

Hell yes.
I'm surprised how little time it took, considering it was on backorder. Put in the order a week and a half ago and here it is.

Prepare to have fun. One of the highest quality games (component wise) I've seen outside of the FFG line as well.

Me and my wife have tried a few 2 player games recently.
Patchwork is simple, great and she loves it.
Rivals of Catan - a bit nerdy for her but she still enjoys it. About the max nerd level she can accept (along with M44)
7 Wonders Duel - she liked but will require more plays to figure it out
Kahuna, easy game, takes time to get good at. Good quick game.
Lost Cities - just purchased, will try to get that out over the summer.
