I can't remember when he wasn't brilliant. He could do comedy, he could do serious roles. I still remember the scene in Rudy, where he tries to convince Rudy that following his dream just wasn't a great idea, and he was captivating.

God, such an underrated actor. His work on the series Homicide was so authentic. Just embodied the role of a downtrodden homicide detective.

He is, of course, remembered by many for his role in Deliverance but what a great, long career he had. RIP.

So good in so many different roles.
