Disappointing outcome that pretty much drives the last nail in the team's coffin for the season. Time to go with Scorp's suggestion and see what the kids on the farm have in them. Shutdown the injured guys and plan for the future.

My biggest disappointment this game was Dube and Mangiapane. Both players had their heads down when there was open passes to the slot and they just can't seem to keep the play going when we have possession.
I want to see those guys thrive, this season had their names all over it for breaking out and they seem to have flatlined.
Growing pains for sure and I'm not ready to give up on anyone just yet. But they need to step up more if they want to be a part of the middle six / future core.
Overall, the better team lost tonight. But it's been a while since we've consistently been a 'better' team.

You really have to laugh at Toffoli’s success this season against his Canuck teammates from last season. It’s ridiculous.

Next year, boys! Work towards a better team through coaching and drafting/trades. The Covid Cup isn't the year to win it all. It's a year to improve through the above methods.

It doesn't really matter how good a team plays, scoring one goal is a fundamentally flawed way of doing business in the NHL.
"But we only lost by one goal."
That's not the point. Losing 5-4 is better than losing 2-1 because defense is teachable. If you can score goals, you can usually figure out how to win. Holding the opposition to 1-2 goals is awesome, but it means literally nothing if you can't score 2-3 yourself.
It just seems like every Flames team since the early 90's has been built around trying not to lose. I would really love to finally see a roster built around trying to win.

Surprised no-one mentioned that Mtl second goal should have been called back.
Suzuki shot the puck 3 feet before hitting the red line (bouncing puck). No one touched it and Tanev was the first at the hash marks.
P.S. Ok maybe it grazzed Backs after a third look.

Because the puck hit Backlund initially and bounced down into the corner.

I think it hit Tanev, too. Not sure about Backs, but the linesman started to wave it off before it hit Tanev, so probably.
The Flames probably should have got an O-zone faceoff off an icing around 2:35 left that was oddly waved off, but thems the breaks.

I blame the CPer in the GDT who subscribed to Sportsnet before today's game.

Sorry, thought that was obvious.

So you were assuming he would come here over anywhere else. A guy being UFA doesn't mean Calgary can sign him even if they want to.
I do agree a scorer or two would make a MASSIVE difference, so many close losses

No thank you. That's what Edmonton and other losers do.
Fight. Play hard. Build a culture of hard work and the wins will come. Tanking is for babies.

I might get roasted for saying this, but if he wants to resign, I think I would make that happen if I was the GM as long as he wasn’t asking for something ridiculous.

Re-sign. Resign has a very different meaning.
The way Johnny plays is super frustrating he's so damn quick and skilled but soft as a newborn kitten. This is the NHL can't be tossed around and knocked down so easily.

Nah, you shouldn't get roasted. I think everyone should be excited that Johnny seems to have figured out how to produce in this system. He's an awesome player when he is playing hard and I'm really happy with his effort and even his chemistry with Lindholm and Tkachuk. The change is working out pretty well. It's probably too late to get in this season, but they look really good and if you're a fan then that should at least bring some excitement.

I agree.
I want to see a full season of the Tkachuk-Lindholm-Gaudreau line.
They look really good.
