Oh no is Shapo injured? Seems strange he's not going.

Not injured as far as I know, I think he just decided that the Olympics didn't fit into his schedule. He does have a recurring shoulder issue though. Here's some words from Shapo on his decision:

“It was definitely a difficult choice. Obviously, I have always dreamt of representing Canada, representing my country at the Olympics. It’s something I think every every athlete dreams about growing up – and especially me. I’ve always I’ve always wanted to go,” Shapovalov told Open Court after his emphatic 6-2, 6-3 victory over defending Queen’s Club champion Feliciano Lopez Thursday.

“With the COVID restrictions and everything going on right now, we just decided with the team that it’s just best for us to skip this one. But for sure, it’s definitely a big pity,” he added.

“That’s obviously in play. I mean, it’s the shoulder’s kind of a recurring thing. So I don’t want to play too, too much and put too much stress on it. And for sure, it’s something that I’m constantly having to go back to my team with and discuss, like we did for the French Open,” he said. “We decided we really want to have a good grass-court season.”

With Wimbledon only a week away, here are my personal top 5 moments at the all England club.....

5) Genie puts Canadian Tennis in the map. Her 2013 run to the final was something I'll never forget. I remember growing up if a Canadian made the 3rd round of a major it was a big deal. For a Canadian to be in a final was something I honestly never thought I'd see. The pinnacle of Genie Mania.

4) Murray wins one for Britain. He finally did it, becoming the first British man to win Wimbledon in the open era. He had come oh so close last year losing to Federer in the final, but this time he wasn't going to be denied, taking out another GOAT in Djokovic. I remember the final game seemed to take forever as Djokovic saved match points and put pressure on Murray.

3) A torch is Passed. We will never see Bjorg vs Nadal at the French or Agassi vs Djokovic at the AO but we were lucky to see Federer vs Sampras at Wimbledon. At the time no one knew the significance of this encounter, but to see the two greatest Wimbledon champions go head to head is pretty special. Federer took the match and eventually the title as greatest Wimbledon champion.

2) A King is Dethroned. Up until Bianca arrived, this was the greatest moment in Canadian tennis. Raonic took out the most popular tennis player ever in Federer, at the most famous tennis court in the world. Watching Raonic take down Federer and finally get to a grand slam final was another moment I never thought I'd see. Unfortunately Murray was a return machine in the finals or he could have become the first Canadian to win a major.

1) Nadal proves he's not a clay court specialist. This is my personal list so of course I have Nadals two Wimbledon titles #1 on the list. What can you say about 2008 final that hasn't already been said. But his 2010 title gets underlooked. People like to dunk on Berdych but his 2010 Wimbledon run is stuff of legend. He takes out Federer in the quarters, then someone named Djokovic in the semis before having to face Nadal in the finals. Wimbledon grass hasn't been kind to Nadal since 2010 but for a stretch Nadal was just as good on grass as anyone else in history. Makes the finals in 2006,2007, wins 2008, withdraws in 2009, wins 2010 then makes the finals in 2011. I wonder how 2009 would have shaken out had Nadal not withdrawn.

This is my biased list but what are some of your favorite memories from Wimbledon?

Wimbledon sucks

Except for the Ivanesevic-Rafter Monday Final when they let the unwashed in.

Bianca's in action this morning versus Christina McHale at Eastbourne, and she took the first set 6-4.

She's also playing doubles tomorrow with Yulia Putintseva.

Bianca moves on after taking the third set 6–2. Good to see.

Yeah, normally I don't attribute much weight into these Wimby warmups, but Bianca needs some matches under her belt feet prior to the fortnight.

Very bad news for Dominic Thiem, could be out for a while. He's had such a rough time after winning the US Open.

Vasek won his opening round match at the Eastbourne tourney in straight sets (6-4 6-4) over James Ward.
