It looks like Desruisseaux signed an AHL contract with Laval a few weeks ago.

Desruisseaux is small but has a lethal shot. He gets it away quickly and can pick corners. He is a 20 yr. old.

I have a feeling pelletier will be a better player than zary based on what I saw at the world juniors. Granted he’s older and had a bit more experience. But he looked more well rounded to me.

Pelletier is a year behind Valamaki.. Valimaki had his awesome Jr. year in D+1 and 24 NHL games in D+2.
Dube in D+2 was captain of Gold Medal Team Canada and in D+3 had 25 NHL games. In his D+1 he was more of a spare part on the U20 team. A year makes a huge difference.
Really hard on the development of both Zary 15 junior games, 9 AHL games and the U20 training camp and tourney and Pelletier 28 reg season junior 15 jr Plyoff games and the U20 experience.
Zary has crossed a hurdle in playing pro games... and doing well.
Pelletier has not had that opportunity.
Because of Covid Zary did not have the Junior playoff experience.
All 2019 and 2020 and 2021 draft picks have missed significant development game time. The WJC was a huge advantage for all the guys picked for the training camp. It will be interesting what comes out of these 3 draft classes.

Throw this guy into the deep end of the pool next year. I think he swims instead of sinks.

The Gifted: Jakob Pelletier’s skill plus detail should bring a well-rounded game to the Flames
For those with The Athletic, Scott Wheeler argues Jakob Pelletier is a bonafide top NHL prospect “through a review of all seven of his games at the world juniors, the pre-tournament ones that preceded it, and all six of his games in the QMJHL Final.”
The article includes analysis of many, many video clips.
This is the conclusion:
“The detail will allow him to play with a variety of linemates, hold his own off the puck, support structure, and make small plays that drive results all over the ice.
The skill and playmaking feel, even without the skating and the size, should add enough to it to make him more than a good role player, potentially turning him into a secondary offensive weapon just below a team’s true stars.
Until then, both of those things should make him a bonafide NHL prospect regardless.”

There was tons of video clips in that article showing all the little things Pelletier does well. To me he should end up in that middle six role. Don't think he is an elite guy at passing or shooting to put in on the top line by himself

I think he's going to be a dandy.
Still think he needs time in the AHL with the bigger players.

With some prospects, you can just tell that they need that AHL time. Maybe they are too skinny/physically incapable of playing in the NHL. Maybe they don't have that defensive awareness. Maybe they don't know how to be a pro.
Then you have prospects that just 'have it' - they are strong on their skates, they play a mature game with strong defensive instincts, and they get drafted as good pros already.
I would bet that Pelletier leans more to the latter (to say the least). The AHL is nothing to sneeze at, and it is definitely a good development league with tonnes to learn. It just wouldn't surprise me if Pelletier came into camp in a few months and forced his way onto the team. He seems to have 'it' to me when I watch him. I would bet that he does start in the AHL, but I wouldn't raise an eyebrow if he is on the Flames next season.

I think players should get AHL time if they need it but as little as possible - there’s a stagnancy risk.

The one thing that constantly gets said about him is he how is an incredibly detailed player. I think that's a very good thing because frankly it's the details that this team has often been not great at.

I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong.
He definitely has some qualities that would be welcome on the big team. Tenacity is sometimes in short supply, for instance.
Like with Zary (who showed very, very well in his short stint with the Heat) I think that's likely Pelletier's starting point.

Pelletier now sits at 6th in AHL scoring. Hell of a rookie season.
