Absolutely. And likely goes without saying an NHL assistant coach would not be granted a license to run a pro sports bookmaking operation.

My point is, I don't really care whether they hire him or not.
And I'm kind of surprised that Seattle is so interested.
I don't get the head coach interest either. He seems like a really good assistant coach that's not been great as a head coach.

He was also the head coach of some pretty poor teams. He took over the Head Coaching job in Tampa during Stamkos’ rookie season, and then had one full season (Hedman’s rookie year) the following year before being let go…this was not a good Tampa team.

He then followed that up with winning two Stanley Cups as an assistant head coach, and then being the Head Coach of an absolute tire fire of an organization in Arizona, where he missed 3 times and got to the 2nd round once in 4 seasons of duty.

Hard to judge coaches when they’re handed the reins of piss poor teams, but yeah - he certainly didn’t turn the turds he had into diamonds.

Late to the party on this one, but I don’t think this happens. Sure sounds like a rumor that got leaked AFTER we signed our other assistant coaches. Like others have mentioned, that’s too many behind the bench. But who knows, maybe Sutter is being more than a coach and is mentoring more than coaching, and wants this coaching staff to take over when his 2 year tenure is over. And I’d be completely fine with that, we’ve needed a nice, steady, competent coaching staff since God knows when.

I view it the same as if an NHL assistant coach was caught selling weed.

Big meh, don't care

Anyone who was following hockey back then knows who Tocchet took the fall for.

Thanks, not sure how I missed that. The difference in their punishments is probably a strong indication of how "50/50" the partnership really was.

Tocchet and Francis won the Cup together. Never underestimate the power of cronyism.

Adding Tocchet would be a big plus for the Flames. Coaching staff would be upgraded substantially over the start of last season with Sutter, Muller and Tocchet.

Wonder when they’ll start chipping away at the players.

Should be an interesting offseason.

I'll say they bring Babs back to the NHL and he never steps foot on U of S ice after all.

This is in no way "way off the board" he has been rumored as one of the choices from day one.

Dineen and Francis played together, NHL experience as a head coach, Stanley cup champion as an assistant head coach.

He would actually fit very well with an expansion team.

His antics would likely squeeze every bit of potential out of the team. They are also going to be a motivated group so his mental gymnastics shouldn't effect the team spirits too much.

All in all though Hartley is a winner. Wherever he goes he wins, he just didn't get enough time here.

LeBrun saying it might be Dave Hakstol

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
One name that has surfaced as a possibility for the head coach job with expansion Seattle is that of Dave Hakstol, the former Flyers HC who was assistant coach with the Maple Leafs this past season....
