League of 32 teams means 64 top pairing defensemen.

And he plays PK and PP with tough minutes.

The blind spot on Hanifin on this site is astounding to me.
Since he is no longer a Flame, he now stinks.

You need to factor that into the advanced stats.

He's actually pretty good which is why the Flames tried so hard to sign him. According to the Athletic he led the Flames with a net rating of +12 (Offensive + Defensive Ratings). Weegar is 2nd at +7 and Tanev 3rd at +5.

A lot of folks around here under-rated him when he was still a Flame.

The one thing I liked about the work Conroy did this year is he took a page out of how Vegas was built, giving younger players buried down the roster depth a chance.

The skills are there for Miromanov but his decision making is colossal slow. Needs to work on his read and reacts.

Agree. He has exceeded my expectations, but I wasn't expecting a lot. Has potential as a third pairing guy. But how much better he can get considering he's already 26...

I dunno, not too shabby for a guy I'd never heard of before at the time of the trade and thought was just a throw in to even out the contracts lol

Damn near replaces Hanifin out of the gate with room to grow, and he's cheaper, and the Flames get a 2026 1st and either a 2024 3rd or 2025 2nd out of it.

Conroy really smashed the Toffoli, Hanifin and Lindholm trades about a mile OVER the fence.
Toffoli yes, Lindholm yes, Hanifin no way.

Your post reminds me a little of Ian White after the Phaneuf trade, people were comparing the two players because the post trade points were similar but it was so obvious Phaneuf (yes Phaneuf) was worlds better. Hanifin is so much more an important piece Miromanov. Daniil Miromanov looks to be a bottom pairing defender on a bad team, for his personal stats he's in his absolute best situation right now. When a team team moves from bad to good he's quickly be pushed out of the lineup.

All about that unprotected 26' 1st for me.

That alone makes it a home run

Will Miromanov better function as a forward? Convert him back and try him on the 3rd line and see if it works out..

If things click he could be good. But that might be a big if. But yes, I see third pairing out of him as well. Not terrible by any means given the other assets.

Tanev provided a lot of stability for Hanifin to excel this year though. Together they were more than the sum of their parts (with Tanev not quite where he was a couple seasons ago).

Easier to do a tight rope walk with a harness on.

Hanifin was finally the player that he had the potential to be this year.

In the previous seasons, it was hard to tell if it was a hesitation thing, or a GAF thing, or a hockey IQ issue. He had the tools but lacked that conviction to close on an opponent. Not the case this year, he took a leap in his play and I'm sad that he wouldn't re-sign.

As for Miromanov, he's better than I was expecting (I initially thought he was acquired for the Wranglers) but still has a lot of work to do. At his age, this is a good time for him to be traded to the Flames and get more NHL playing time as it's sink or swim time for him.
