Going to be hard for the Oilers to be players for anyone in free agency until they can get those two contracts done.

Chia did say he wouldn't be signing any of the teams UFA's or RFA's until he had a good handle on what the McDavid and Draisaitl contract were going to come in at. I imagine with Russell and Kassian being signed the last couple days we will see a joint announcement of their Contracts on July 1.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think anything can be announced until July 1 for McDavid.
My guess is they will announce both at the same time.
I predict McD 8x$7 and Drai at 8x$5.5...
I kid, I kid

Hahaha! Okay, you were joking. If they got those contracts they'd have to tear Gretzky's statue down and replace it with porn-stache Chia.

Oh You
I don't expect the Oilers to be all that active in terms of free agency over the next couple of years unless they dump a RNH contract. And then what are they going to do? Sign another RNH?

The funny thing was, that I'm sure the Statistician felt so sorry for that effort by Sam that he awarded him a rare hit anyways.

They're lying to themselves hard if they want to push this idea that their core is somehow better, let alone comparable lol. Gio-Hamilton were one of the best pairings in hockey last season by the stats. Both can flirt with 50 points a season. Edmonton has no 50 point d-men that can play at both ends of the ice. And with the second pairing as it is now, they would probably be the #1 and 2 in Edmonton, even with Hamonic and Brodie having one-off years.
This whole resurgence has made Oiler talk really entertaining. They're more delusional than ever. They've fully embraced last season and truly believe that that was the tip of the iceberg to what greatness their current team can achieve, despite that blue line that Talbot impressively disguised/sheltered, and the massive pay raises to come, and it's going to set them up for a lot of embarrassment and crow.

That "core" made it to the 7th game of the 2nd round, finished top 10 in the league, had the best record against the Western Conference of any team and 2 points shy of a division title....and all their best players are 25 and under
oh, and swept the Flames, who continually seem to have a "great defense core"
but Mike Smith is the answer, cause 8th time is a charm

First of all, welcome back!
Second, are you mad? The Oilers have Larsson, Klefbom, Sekera, and...? Nurse? Russell? Benning? Those guys are all 5/6s, at best. It was Cam Talbot who led you guys to the second round. It's also funny that you say '8th time is a charm' with Smith, since I seem to remember these guys all suiting up for Edmonton being praised as the 'next big thing':
Ben Scrivens
Viktor Fasth
Nikolai Khabibulin
Tyler Bunz
Anders Nilsson
Ilya Bryzgalov
Jason LaBarbera
Devan Dubnyk
Martin Gerber
Yann Danis
Jeff Deslauriers
Mathieu Garon
Jussi Markkanen
The Flames have Giordano, Hamilton, Brodie, and Hamonic, all solid top-2 or top-3 guys. If they bring back Stone or bring in Del Zotto, there's a top-4 guy who'll be on the bottom pair with a guy like Andersson.
Yes, the Oilers swept the Flames, but I mean you also beat the Flames a lot in 2010-11 when Jordan Eberle was a rookie and he was being paraded on TSN a lot because he was who was going to haunt the Flames for two decades. I hardly put stock in one season.
"Little Johnny" had a down year. Just wait for next year, mister. And until then, please stay away from here.

lol you think the Oilers defence core is better than the Flames?
Imagine being so upset at a rival fan base that you create an account on their forum to constantly defend your team for 9+ years, and then you go back to HF and laugh that a rival fan base has a thread dedicated to your team's ineptitude, like they are the ones with the inferiority complex.

I suppose there isnt much value in pointing out that the Oilers have been the Flames' bitch for the last decade?
You got a lottery ball. Congrats.

They're a three man team. And one of those three men is piggybacking off of the reigning hart trophy winner. I'd prefer our core.

Did an Oilers fan really say 8th times a charm with our goaltending. I'm guessing one good year from Talbot washed out all the memories of jersey's flying onto the ice and Scrirvens tossing it back into the stands while crying.

Yea the best part about that d-core was the way Talbot stood on his head and the Oilers were gifted a generational player after ten years of being one of the biggest clown-shows in the history of pro sports.
That should be a lesson to D-cores all around the league.

Whats Khabibulin doing these days?
I hear that Dubnyk is doing okay.

I just can't for the life of me understand why a fan of a team that had the McDavid lottery pick, a Draisaitl explosion and Cam Talbot becoming a new number one would get into defense cores on a Flames site?
Talk about picking the wrong hill to die on.
Edmonton has the goaltending edge, and you could argue the forward edge as well because of the top end. On defense no way, don't be greedy!
