Oilers and Flyers mathematically move their way to a deal
To Edmonton:
Sean Couturier
Justin Kloos
To Philly:
Artem Anisimov
Lauri Korpikoski
Robin Salo
1.35 mil
The reason for the title is that we spoke more about the financial aspects of the deal than on the deal itself. We had so many different equations going on to make the deal and it eventually lead us here. Korpikoski is heading to Philly because I can’t put him on waivers, but that clears up space, and I also give Philly 1.35 million so they can sign and call Matthews up.
I’m happy to get Couturier, he has the same overall as Anisimov, who is an expiring UFA, but it sucked giving Artem up as he was our best forward last year. Salo was also a decent prospect who has solid NHL potential. My main purpose of the deal was to get younger and that was accomplished.
I think it’s a fair deal for both sides, Philly can now bring Matthews in while also getting a guy who has the same overall as Couturier, which very much deepens their roster. I get a younger parallel guy that I can keep for much longer than the remainder of the season.
Thanks JonDuke for the negotiations, they were long but they tested my brain!
