Sounds identical to the standard PC software (retails $300). If you want go to L&M and check it out, or pay me an hour of studio time and you can come over and play my new American Fender Strat!

Its the same software Nickelback used on their last record.

This is the nail in the coffin for major money studios. Drums and Gtrs take the most time to set up a good sound to record, and now its just click click boom boom.

That is crazy. Imagine having a live gig and just pulling out your iphone for your effects.

Not just effects. Amp modelling. As if you mic'd the real amp. But it sounds better. Just plug your iPhone into the mixer!

I've played around with Amplitube stuff, but I thought it sounded awful. I guess it depends on what kind of sound you're going for.

Have you tried specifically Amplitube 3? I agreed with you until this new version. It sounds amazing. You have so much flexibility, especially being able to grab the mics and position them wherever you want. Side to side and farther away/closer. Its freaking nuts.

You can download a 10-day full functioning demo of Amplitube 3 from IK Multimedia's website. I actually used it for tracking someone's demo and we got er done before the demo ran out! Then you pay for your liscence code and enter it and keep going.

I DO NOT work for IK Multimedia!

I haven't tried Amplitube 3, maybe I'll look at the trial and give it a shot.

Don't get me wrong, the ones I tried were awesome to play around with but there was always something missing and I couldn't imagine using them in place of actual good gear. They're pretty cool tools to get a wide palette of sounds in one box, but to my ears they never really came close to the real deal. I'll have to try out the newest version to see for myself.

That said, this technology if properly done, could be a real boon for home and small scale recording because they can allow a pretty professional sound on a budget. I think we're going to see some exciting stuff over the coming years in this area as technology improves. High quality samples (piano, organ, string) have already gotten phenomenally good in the past few years and I expect modeling software will do the same in the future.

^ Check out BFD2 by FXpansion while you're at it. I'm up to 500 GIGS of drum sample glory.

Haha, do you actually have a studio?

I'm pretty lame. I've got an Eric Johnson Strat but all these years my effects I've owned have consisted of the el-lamo Fender G-Dec.

I would like to hear how it sounds on some actual decent equipment.

Yo, I was mistaken about Nickelback. Their last album was done doing Guitar Rig 4. It is also awesome, although I do like Amplitube 3 more.

Not being used by Nickelback just makes this app even more awesome.

I run Amplitube Fender, which I think sounds really pretty good (I'm a sucker for a Fender Bassman, too bad I can't afford the real thing money or volume wise - I have this software as well as the Boss '59 Bassman pedal instead), and have had the iRig on order since it was announced.

I'm picturing using this on the iPad, plugged into an FM transmitter, so that I have a portable practice rig anywhere there's a radio.
