^^^ Good advice.
I just switched to a rubber net because sometimes the hook would get caught in the fabric net, delaying the release of the fish.

Officers recently seized 94 perch, along with fishing rods, from a group of four men, which is 34 perch over the limit. All four individuals were issued Appearance Notices and will have their day in court on September 16, 2015.
Poaching can be hard on your pocketbook. Two men recently pleaded guilty to fishing in closed waters and unlawful possession of fish in the Lethbridge area. Jacob Giesbrecht was in possession of six fish (two walleye and four goldeye) and received a $2,000 fine and a one-year recreational licence suspension. Isaac Dyck was in possession of 12 fish (two sauger, four walleye and eight goldeye) and received a $3,850 fine and a one-year recreational licence suspension.

Wow, WTF is wrong with people? Really, what the hell are you going to do with all those little perch? Some real sweet fillets off those beauties...
And goldeye? I don't know anyone that would eat a goldeye. Is something wrong with the grocery stores in Lethbridge?

This is actually somewhat puzzling. Perch is a predator that takes over other fish habitat pretty quickly if not stopped. I've seen signs on White and Adams Lakes in BC asking fishermen to take as many perch as they can, because that's what happened there already. Regardless of why would some people need that many perch fish, I thought there is no limit on amateur fishing of it. Obviously, this is not the case.

Yeah we got that one and three in the 30's... He's caught a couple bigger Halibut the last couple years - spoiled! My dad's been going there for 30+ years 76lbs is his biggest... Mine was 52 - at least I beat the kid!

It's been a long time since I've commented on the forum but this made me stop by. I went fishing the Skeena when I was in grade 8 (so…14, 15ish?) and caught two fish in the entire time I was there. One ten pound steelhead and a thirty pound Chinook…two fish in seven days and worth every second sitting on the bank of the river waiting for a bell to ring. The Skeena is what made me realize my love for fishing, and I'll never forget the fun I had out there. Thank you kindly for bringing back such happy memories. While I still love lake fishing for jack and pickerel, and the occasional ocean trip for salmon, nothing will ever compare to the excitement of scarring up your hands trying to set the hook on a salmon headed downriver!
Thanks again!

Yes it an amazing place and an experience you can't beat (very expensive though it's $21 a day to fish classified waters now) but worth every penny ... Very lucky to be able to experience it with my Dad and son for sure... We had at least one fish on every day and lost a couple after long fights - but like you said the days go by fast with you staring at your rod tip all day and jumping at every noise your bell makes.

Angelamc and Slava kicked my butt yesterday. I caught a few little cutties on a dry fly, and had my heart broken by a dandy fish that broke off my tippet.
Slava caught this beauty with a grasshopper - he caught another with a streamer, and I look forward to seeing that photo. Angelamc did well with a Fat Albert/dropper combo.

I thought this thread was dead!! I was wrong.
These posts are great. We are looking for a place to go for Monday, this weekend, any ideas of a possible hike in and fish or maybe just drive up and fish along a river?
Thinking Oldman but I am not sure where to go. I think I might head out to the Bow tonight too, hopefully it isn't raining!

On a weekend Oldman would be too crowded I think.
If you don't mind a hike I recommend Burns Lake (up the Sheep River), or Lake of the Horns (upper Highwood). I don't mind mentioning these lakes because it takes a real effort to reach them.

So tomorrow we are going to Hogarth Lakes, I think. I'll post some pics and give a general overview of how it was. It is a short hike in, so hopefully that means a lot of fishing!

So we went up to Hogarth lakes. It was ok, we saw some fish but no one caught anything. It isn't really a hike at all, it is pretty close to the parking lot. The scenery was nice but I wouldn't recommend heading here for fishing.
Yesterday, we made a few stops along highway 40, coming back from Fernie and stopped off at Racehorse creek campground. There was a small pool where Racehorse and Vicary creek meet up, there were tonnes of fish. You can see them all over the place, mostly rainbows. I caught 1 in a 3 hour period, it was about 10" and my partner caught 2, all about the same size but you could see larger fish at the bottom of the pools.
I recommend camping here and doing some fishing in Racehorse creek and if that isn't your thing, then heading downstream to the Oldman River, it is a great place to fish too!

Anyone ever use drop shot rigs for live bait fishing from shore?
I've been targeting tiger musky in Otisco Lake, and they've been pretty finicky lately. I usually use a slip sinker rig with the biggest creek chubs I can get my hands on, but have been getting skunked lately.

Are you sure those were rainbows in Rachorse? I would expect cutties or maybe cuttbows.
