Halfway through I like the MC Eiht album so far. A lot of the tracks don't really sound "west coast" to me production wise. It's pretty much what you'd expect when an East Coast icon tries to make a west coast record. There's clear influences from both and it sounds pretty good.
Could be, but it has that super laid back WC vibe. I just find the East coast in general is a little more "layered" maybe? I don't know if that's the best explanation, but it's just not my favorite I guess. Not terrible, but not amazing.

I get what you mean about the sound. West Coast is more melodic with longer bass lines. It's more "driving music" while East Coast stuff has more samples, chops etc in it.

Nice list...I still need to check out the Big K.R.I.T. album but I've heard good things. That Your Old Droog album is so good.
I would add Kendrick's DAMN to the list but that's just my opinion. I played that album hard all summer. Blue Chips by Action Bronson and Big Boi's Boomiverse would probably make it too.
Boomiverse was 11 or 12. Love that album but more for the guest spots. I don’t love Kendrick like everyone else does but that album was good. Contemplated making the exception for RTJ3 since they technically dropped it in 2016 but it couldn’t be done. They’ll have to settle for being the biggest hip hop duo in the world instead of being on my 2017 list. I know this will upset them.
i really like it when i stumble across some hip-hop that i have never heard before such as this song that i found while watching some youtube videos on thunderbirds (the car not the tv show)

PRhyme 2 is fire. Royce and Premier back at it again. The new MURS album is better than anything he’s released on Strange Music too. That’s all, carry on.
I've heard nothing but good things about PRhyme 2. I need to check that out. How does Murs' latest album compare to his overall catalog? He was one of my favourites in the mid 2000's (especially the 9th wonder albums) but then he put out some stuff I wasn't really into.
Listened to the new Pusha T album, and although it's short at 7 songs, Kanye West with the production on the album proves he's still among the best in the hip hop world. The production really is classic Kanye.

Thanks for the head's up, I'm listening to Murs - A Strange Journey into the Unimaginable. It's great so far! Murs has always been super talented though.
At the risk of transitioning into full on Royce fanboy I gotta say that The Book of Ryan is easily a 5 mic album. New A$AP is decent and Push is fine for an EP.

I love the new pusha album. Been playing it all weekend...nice, really concise and tight project. The beats are great and Pusha's flows are so ill. He snaps on Come Back Baby.
