Wow, didn't see that coming. Any other coach with a .500 record, sure. But Quenneville?

I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the rest of the year off. He's made really good money for a coach (not undeserved). So unless he is the kind of guy who just can't stay away, he can use time to relax and pick and choose his job.

If he is of a mind to work, I think St. Louis is the most obvious. LA needs a non-interim coach, but it'd be pretty low to fire Willie this quickly. Anaheim could be in the market.

Possible but less likely - San Jose has underperformed, though they are maybe gradually getting better. Same with NJ and Buffalo. Florida might want to change (again).

I could see LA next summer. But yeah, I would think Q takes the rest of this season off to catch up on his banking.

Blackhawks reaffirmed that Quenneville would not be fired early this past off-season. Guess that only lasted one month into the next season.

I'm not convinced that Quenneville was the problem in Chicago. I think it's their aging and highly paid core, starting to catch up to them.

Edmonton has been winning more games than they're losing lately (ugh), so McClelland is safe for now. Oilers will pass on Quenneville because this short-lived mirage of success is hiding the fundamental problems on the team (lack of depth, AHL-calibre defense, cap problems, etc.). This is the best case scenario, they will miss the chance to hire Quenneville and probably end up with GG as coach or interim coach when they hit that tailspin later in the season.

It should hit sometime around McDavid flu season.

They did lose to Edmonton. And Vancouver. That has to sting.

Stan Bowman should go at the same time, he is the one that gave Q an AHL quality Defense, and a bunch of inexperienced forwards. This is a stupid move.

Who came up with that take that Coach Q always looks like he's waiting for the bus? So spot on haha.

I busted a gut laughing at that.

If he goes to Edmonton you know it's only on the condition the old boys club are moved out of anything hockey operations related.

Which would obviously not sit well with the old boys club, so probably not happening then. Old boys club is the only thing that matters in Edmonton after all.

The problem with the oilers is (1) inability to draft + develop (2) bad at trading (3) bad at free agent signings.

Those three things together mean they end up trading away talent for lesser talent, overpay players and can only rely in top picks and college free agent signings to drive internal player development. And all that things feed together. When you can't draft/develop you end up overreliant on trading partners (negotiating from weakness) and ufa market (where you always overpay and get post Apex players).

Lucic - terrible signing
Kassian - bad signing
Russel - bad signing
Tobais Reider - signing
Chaisson - signing
Larson - bad trade
Strome - bad trade
Hopkins - top pick
Mcdavid - top pick
Pool party - top pick
Nurse - top pick
Klefbom - first round pick
Cagguila - college free agent

That is a not good top-9 and top-4 . Any competent team would be able to ice a quality team with mcdavid and draisatil at it's core. The oilers are not a competent team.

Yeo should start packing...I am betting that Q just moves down I-55 to St. Loo.

Would (can?) the Blues pay him $6M?

If not, he may as well just hang out at home.

The Blues recycled Hitchcock, I could see them going for Q.

If they give him a long term deal, he might take a deal. He'd still get his $6M this year and next based on the combination of the new deal and the Hawks obligation.

I can see St Louis or LA slobbering at the chance to acquire a coach like this. I don’t understand this move in the slightest.
