What App Do You Use To Listen To Podcasts?
With the Google Podcast app about to become a thing of the past, I need to find a new app.
I don't need much, something that I'm about to get my subscriptions on, does the auto download thing, I can setup playlist, and ideally has a simple to use skip ahead/back feature for when ads come on.
It seems like there are 2,827,642 different apps that will likely do the above, so I'm paralyzed with choice.
What app do you use, and why? What don't you like about it?

Pocket Casts. It's on iOS, Android and Windows. It does everything I want a podcast player to do. It'll even play other audio files you add to it.

Someone here put me on to Overcast when I asked this earlier and it's great!

It's iOS only but everyone who uses it seems to love it.

Seconding Pocket Casts. It’s fantastic.

What I like about Overcast is it can adjust speed on the fly, eliminating pauses that add up over time. I'm not in the camp that can listen to these things at 2x speed, but I found the "Smart Speed" feature to be the best of both worlds.

I just use the iPhone one. Not sure what I would need a standalone app for.

An enjoyable experience? I haven't used the Apple podcasts app in years, so maybe they've improved it, but it used to be horrible.

Nah, it's still horrible. Our family uses a single apple id for iTunes because we've been doing it long before family sharing. Apple Podcast app uses that ID so everyone in our family sees all the subscribed podcasts from everyone.
I've used Downcast for probably close to 12 years.

Open it and push play? What am I missing here?
I listen to like 6 podcasts. I open the app and they are there and I listen. I’m not sure what other options I would need.
If you’re sharing an ID like above then sure I guess. But who does that?

Well that's unhappy news. I exclusively use Google Podcasts as part of my YouTube Music subscription.

I switched because the Apple one was brutal. It would constantly not bookmark where I was if I stopped listening partway through, and that type of thing. Just about everything seems to work better with Overcast though. It's more intuitive and it has small features that just make sense. You pause a podcast and it automatically backs up a few seconds to have it properly cued for you when you restart, for example.

Podcast Addict (Android) - only because I've used it for a while. It's not fabulous.

Probably a bunch of people since there are separate options for iCloud and iTunes Purchases Apple IDs within each device.
I've been listening to podcasts since 2007 through iTunes and started using Downcast in 2010 because it was so simple. Apple released their Podcast App in 2012, Family sharing started in 2014.
I tried Apple Podcasts and it synced all my wife's subscriptions. It deleted played episodes which was annoying because I fall asleep listening and have to download again. The recommendations are annoying, and the browsing is limited per category plus some new, and featured ones.
I keep using downcast because it's just a list of my subscriptions and episodes each with their own settings. No recommendations or other Podcasts and it syncs and is backed up to iCloud, not through iTunes.

I just use Spotify. Seems fine, but it’s been many years since I tried anything else, and that was probably just the Apple one.

I listen to podcasts for about two hours a day and use the Apple app. My needs are simple - easy searching, easy downloading, queues…. I’ve never tried another app and haven’t seen the need.

Same here, first one I used, works well enough, haven't bothered to try anything else.
