It really is a little sad when you see the amazing power of humanity in a breakthrough like this and then remember that here on earth we spend the better part of our time squabbling and killing over minor differences between people, religion and countries.
Imagine if we were truly one as a people what we could do?!

I recall they were attempting to train crows to pick up cigarette butts and discard them for a food reward in some Scandinavian country. Watch out... Think seagulls stealing french fries are annoying?

This is absolutely true in every way. Space exploration really is the final frontier for humanity; every scientific and technological advancement we complete on earth really is another step towards this end goal... and yet on this planet we spend most of our time wasting it squabbling with each other over petty differences. Hopefully one day that changes, for good.

Sure but remember a lot of our greatest technological advancements come from our desire to kill people.
The rocket's major advancements came from a desire to kill people hundreds to thousands of miles away.
Our ability to travel across the ocean at hundreds of miles an hour, came from a desire for a faster fighter plane.
a lot of medical advances came from battlefield surgeries.
Computers, a desire to calculate artillery and break codes.
Competition and war are the perfect elixir for advancement.
Our fastest period of space exploration came due to the fear that the Soviet enemy would get their first.
Even things like nuclear energy came from taming the atom for military purposes.
