Transport Canada has redefined which Canadian airports are considered 'international' and many have been removed from the list including Regina, Saskatoon, Victoria and Kelowna to name a few. Airports can apply to redesignate themselves as international. It's not clear what the ramifications are, I'm reading it likely would not affect the ability to conduct transborder flights to the US but might have a negative impact on international flights - which were common from all four of these airports in winter.

TBF Avenger ditched off the coast (barely) of Florida yesterday.

The photos at the link are better even than the video itself.

The next domino in the line, Transat has reached a deal now. Good to see. Similar conditions as the Air Canada one. WestJet will be interesting as they cannot be subject to the same conditions as these deals stipulate so the parties will need to be more creative. Plus WS has always maintained that the best policy of all is to get people moving again so maybe a bit of a stalemate in negotiations.

Cool, until that ends up way offsite, in a call centre, in Mumbai.

I don't know much about airplane drag and design but I've always wondered how much fuel savings there could be with the 737 if the belly of the plane had a wheel flap/door. The underside of the fuselage should be a high pressure zone and I assume that the open wheel area creates quite a bit of drag.

Key Lime Air? We can make a Pie in the Sky joke since everyone is safe, right?

I don’t think the key lime pielot (hah!) had any idea how near to death he was there. I’d love to know his reaction as he realized the severity of the situation.

It also turns out the other Cessna in the pattern that made the radio calls about seeing the chute deployed was a student pilot on his first solo. Great job keeping it all together and calling in that information.
