Ahw poor Donny... I think the United' midfield is just too stacked.
I don't watch a lot of United games but I think they play with 1 attacking midfielder (Bruno) and 2 more defensive minded midfielders.
Donny's strenght is somewhere in between.
He looks so lost out there when I see him play.
He would benefit from a (balanced) 3 player midfield with Matic/McTominay and perhaps Mata.
I understand Mata is (way) past his prime, but a playmaker like Mata would help out Donny. And ofcourse you always play with Bruno.
It's been a topic all year for Dutch sports journalists as well, but nobody really has an answer. He's not taking the chances he gets.
I think the best think for both United and Donny is to move him.
Temporarily to Leicester (I like Brendan Rodgers style) but I don't think United is up for that.
Or sell him to a (top) Bundesliga club. A little less physical than the PL. A little more handling time. That could work.
I don't think his role at United will change after the summer.
(and at this moment he might even lose his place on the Holland roster for Euro 2020)
Edwin... Saw an interwiew with him 2 weeks ago.
When asked about his future he answered 'everybody has ambitions and United has a place in my heart'
The Super League fiasco didn't help though.
In the current state of the club (United) I don't see him making a move anytime soon.
If the Glazers are out, I have no doubt he will be open for a role at United.
To be honest; I don't think van der Sar is anything special.
He absolutely needs strong and loyal people around him.
EDIT: I might have to give VDS a bit more props. His name opens doors.
Not a lot of people say 'no thank you' when icons like him invite you to the (business) table.
But, like I said before, he needs a strong and loyal team behind him.
