And with Trump's announcement comes another two years of insanity. Will someone please adjudicate against this ####### and shut him up once and for all. Seriously, this country can't take it anymore.

The Republican party is already fractured with many members of the party wanting to move on from Trump. Someone in the party needs to step up and challenge him for the Presidential bid but they won't due to fears of enduring his wrath. I agree, sad day for America

Trump still has a good shot of winning primaries even if he is in prison. It would probably motivate his supporters even more.
The problem is his cult is still at least 50% of voters who vote in Republican primaries.
Looking at the current Foxnews home page, it has Desantis as the top story and Trump's announcement in a little box with a less than enthusiastic headline about his announcement. Even if Trump has lost Fox News, that just moves all his supporters to OAN or Newsmax though.
Desantis will run. The only shot he probably has is if he is the single challenger pretty quickly in. If it is Desantis, Pence, Youngkin and Hogan for a while, then Trump gets some easy primary wins and probably has too big a lead to overcome as others drop out.

I agree. I'm not even sure DeSantis runs. I think he gets by mostly unchallenged.

There is no way this is the headline on foxnews after Trump's announcement if they don't already know he's runnning and are planning to push him.

Fox news and the establishment don't vote for president and Trump is still the favorite to carry the republican flag

If Trump has lost Fox, he's done. That's where the mainstream right gets all their "info", not from obscure sources like OAN or Newsmax. Without Fox pushing him, it's over.

I'm not sure it's quite that easy. Fox somewhat steers the conversation but it definitely doesn't lead. If they lose Trump voters they lose audience. They know where dinner hangs

I'm just saying Desantis will definitely run and have some significant support behind him.
I don't know if it is enough to overcome the Trump cult that has probably already ditched Fox News.

If memory serves, Fox was pretty late to jumping on his bandwagon in 2016. It's the typical Republican stance these days, be totally against something but then fall 100% in line when the time comes.

Fox absolutely was anti-Trump at the outset of those primaries. It wasn't just Megyn Kelly, they actively tried to treat him like an afterthought for as long as possible before capitulating. This isn't a surprise.

After the primary they'll all fall back the winner. DeSantis is just a Trump clone and there's Zero chance he can beat Trump in a primary

Trump has the cult, and the definitely matters, especially in the primary, but unlike last time where he had a dozen people to bash and insult to draw attention, he's looking at one at most, and that one is well liked by even a lot of the cult. And as we can see from the attempted walkouts last night and the middling coverage today outside of OANN and Newsmax, he's schtick is pretty played at this point. Doesn't mean he won't win the nomination, but DeSantis is far, far stronger than anyone he went up against in the 2016 primary. If DeSantis can stay above the fray and keep on message, he might win simply by Trump boring people to death.
