We really need to change the thread title. "Intellectual" gives far too much credit and doesn't capture the creepiness factor going on here.

It's a good lesson in hero worship. Just don't do it. See also:Elon Musk.

Which seems a pretty sorry stance for Canada's public broadcaster to take with such a prominent figure.

You don't have to think he's a guru or agree with his criticism of identity politics to recognize that he's an important figure on the cultural and political landscape today. What does it say about the public dialogue in this country that he's being recognized as such in the UK while the Canadian cultural establishment has rendered him persona non grata?
The original post for this thread is rather amusing in retrospect. To answer that, I guess the CBC was a lot smarter than their British counterparts. Good job CBC, you should get a funding boost.

Yeah, that post is a first-ballot nominee for the "aged like milk" hall of fame.

Anyways, Doc Lobster is upset about rainbow cop cars, but not for any of the relevant reasons someone might be upset about them.

There are a few of the people mentioned in this thread who were genuinely promoting free speech. It should have been obvious to anyone that JP was always just masking a bunch of overly right wing nonsense though. He at least used to have a gift of sounding articulate when he did it, now JP has deteriorated into childish babbling.

He made an even worse post with the “Remember when pride was a sin” lead-in, dead naming Elliott Page and criticising his top surgery.

Peterson got famous for being a transphobe. He’s the exact same person he’s been from the beginning, just cranked up a couple notches because he’s mentally unwell and rapidly losing the credibility he was once gifted.

Hopefully some of the transphobic posters at the start of this thread have softened their views over the past four years, because the number of people he got praise from is fairly gross.

Peterson was left leaning at one point. He was NDP. He was a Democrat strategist. His books offer good advice in the section that apply to you.

But he has absolutely gone off the rails.

The 'I used to be a democrat but they became too woke' people are just the worst. Imagine caring more about some tiny part of the left being annoying about language than gun control or whatever else made you support the Democrats in the first place.

They are trying to straddle the middle ground as they claim the right and left have done too far but that just comes off as fake.

Attacking trans people and complaining about the backlash is what got him famous in the first place, so like any faded performer he is "playing the hits". And in no coincidence at all he has just joined The Daily Wire so he can complain to his audience of millions about being silenced!

I'm not a fan of the guy at all, but laughing at a guy who is pretty clearly going through some severe mental health issues (yeah, I'm not a psycho therapist, I get it), is very off-putting.

Maybe he should lay off demonizing trans people, who often deal with severe mental health issues as well, and then we'll think about cutting him some slack.

I should add that I've said many times that I hope he gets the help he needs, and the issues I have with him aren't due to his mental illness.

I will not lie, i enjoyed watching Peterson’s psychology lectures at UofT— on YouTube.

But the man is intolerant, crude, and downright quite hateful towards the trans community. While I do have some trouble understanding the trans debate, he is not adding to the discussion whatsoever, and devalues humans towards whatever his end goal is. Not a fan of Peterson anymore. Jordan often says “total tolerance becomes intolerance.” Well, he’s just intolerant, and at my current position on the topic, I think people would have difficulty arguing otherwise.
