Default Summer 2015 Prospect Ranking - Round 8

It's time.

Calgarypuck's 3rd annual Prospect Ranking Poll!

Going with the 25 and under with 65 or less games played at the NHL level which actually works pretty closely with my own rule of thumb of "anyone not too old that hasn't been penciled in".

Therefore Granlund, Ortio and Ferland are still prospects, with Jooris 5 games light of the 65 game limit.

Monahan and Gaudreau are young but clearly established and no longer prospects. Bennett may be penciled in but he's only played 12 NHL games and is a prospect.

Previous Two Editions
2014 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...highlight=poll
2013 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...ghlight=Summer

Rankings:

1. Sam Bennett - 96% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147961)
2. Emile Poirier - 38% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147973)
3. Jon Gillies - 35% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147982)
4. Micheal Ferland - 44% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147999)
5. Joni Ortio - 63% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=148014)
6. Mark Jankowski - 38% Run off (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=148037 / http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=148031)
7. Brandon Hickey - 57% Run off (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=148057 / http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=148044)

I was torn between Andersson, Granlund, Klimchuk and Kylington ... went Kylington on extreme upside (sorry Granlund people)

Have a feeling I may be stuck voting for Kylington for a few rounds though!

Sure sounds like the Flames came away happy with his performance at summer camp. Big year for him.

Klimchuk as he has a higher ceiling than Granlund.

My 7th straight vote for olliekdot, The Gunfighter from the OK Corral, the Kylington Express, the Sweet Swede, The Big Chill himself.......Oliver Kylington.
He will be our #1 prospect when we do this list next summer.....

Voted Granlund. Already shown he can be an NHLer and I believe is still getting better.
I don't really get the Kylington votes. So he has upside and I guess he had a good development camp.

Howver, he was drafted end of the second round just a few weeks ago. He has already passed Klimchuk,a first round pick? I understand different draft years can be stronger than others but can't help but think his development camp showing is over rated or Klimchuk's performance since his being drafted is really disappointing for some people.

I haven't seen either play nearly enough to come to this conclusion. Alot of the buzz on Kylington is because many think we got great value drafting him when we did. That may be contributing to him being over valued in this poll.

I'm still staying with Granlund. He's shown he can play at the NHL level and I believe his development will slightly improve his skills while (hopefully) bring more consistency to his game.

Klimchuk for me, really like what he brings. His upside is similar to Granlund but I think Klimchuk is more likely to reach it

Totally hear you.

To me though its where a player tops out. Klimchuk is a given and will get my vote soon. But I think he's likely a third line guy. A good one hopefully, but a third line guy.

Guys taken at the end of the first round are usually in that Klimchuk mold.

Kylington dropped like a stone this year, but was as high as 3/4 in the past draft a year earlier because of his talent. If the Flames get him on track he could be a top pairing defenseman.

The warts of his fall kept him out of my top 7 but this is the point in the prospect rankings where guys start to have issues ... either upside, or attitude, or skating, or size, etc.

Going with Granlund, though Klimchuk was close. I see them as having similar upside, Klimchuk maybe slightly higher, but Granlund has translated some to the AHL and NHL already.

I'd bet a good chunk of NHL teams would like to have this many prospects with top-half-of-the-roster upside fighting it out for 8th best prospect honors.

I'm excited about Kylington's potential, but I think his valuation as a second rounder is closer to being right than earlier top 5 valuations. I'm eager to see how he progresses over the next 3-4 seasons.

Granlund gets my vote again this round.

Real toss up between Granlund and Klimchuk, went with Klimchuk because I see him as more likely to make it full time as a solid utility player that can run up and down the lines. A more complete player IMO

What a time to be a Flames fan.

Would have killed to have such depth 10 years ago.

Stole this approach from someone earlier - which player would I least like to lose?
So now the answer is Klimchuk

Like many others here on CP, I HATE Granlund! But seriously, hopefully he can put on 10-15 pounds of muscle this summer so he's not quite so weak in the corners.
