You get an interview with Edwards for the GM job
Brad Treliving has decided not to stay in Calgary.
Murray Edwards has cast a large net to find a replacement GM.
He is intrigued by some of your posts on CP and has called you in for an interview.
He lays out the following facts:
- Calgary Flames have a great and loyal fanbase.
- Calgary Flames have one of the best coaches in the league. A proven winner.
- Calgary Flames have some excellent players.
- Calgary Flames have a number of top six/top nine prospects.
- The most important thing for the organization is to be competitive and win a Stanley Cup.
He has one question for you to answer to determine if you get the job.
What do you want to do in the next 3 years to make sure we can win the Stanley Cup?

I mean...if I got the opportunity to be in a room with Murray Edwards I'm sure the first interview questions would be centered around why I brought so much duct tape and zip-ties to what is supposed to be a job interview.
There wouldnt be a lot of questions after that. Not verbally at least.
And its not some weird sex thing...its ransom. Pure and simple! Get your mind out of the gutter!

I would probably think that Murray does not really know his team or organization if those were the “facts”. I would just buy for time to try to get a job for 3 years, say that we need to sign some middling UFA’s to put us over the top and collect a pay cheque for 3 years.

I already don’t want the job due to the used car salesman bombardment of how great the place is. Instant red flag. Out.

Agree with everything he says and so we can get to the salary negotiation. Once I got the job do the opposite of what he said.

Invest all of our time and money into building a time machine so we can go back to the 40's and use our advanced equipment technology to our advantage, a la The Final Countdown. I'd have to be frank with Murray and let him know the reality he's attempted to paint is just as real as that time machine we're talking about building.

Two questions Murray:
1. If this is such a great place to play, why are you only able to attract FA's on the tail end of their careers who you likely have to overpay for and will undoubtedly buy out at some point?
2. If you're as rich as you say, why are your arena and player amenities such crap?

I'm selling my idea for petty targeted promotions when Columbus and Florida come to Calgary really hard. A free trip to Sunrise with a fully chauffeured golf cart, and giving advertising for Columbus travel agents who find unreal travel deals for the last two weeks of April if you book by February 21 with no cancelation insurance.

My interview with Murray Edwards would go as follows:
Candidate: My first order of business would be to fire Brad Treliving and bring back Jay Feaster as GM.
Murray: Please see my secretary for the keys to the executive washroom and welcome to the Flames organization.

My first statement to Mr. Edwards would be to stop being a cheap bastard & build the new rink with his own money that he amassed through our natural resources.
It likely would be my last statement and I would probably get the DJ Jazzy Jeff exit from said interview.

Hire Al Pacino on a 3 year contract to deliver his any given Sunday speech in person to the team twice a month during the regular season before they hit the ice for a game.
During the playoffs, every game.

If Murray Edwards gave me the job, I’d fire most of the pro scouts on staff. They’ve made a lot of bad calls evaluating pro talent over the last decade. They diverted a lot of quality resources from the better performing amateur scouts in order to trade for a lot of expensive, short term projects that ultimately failed in both execution and vision.
Who knows what this team could’ve achieved if they had instead drafted a Noah Dobson, a Jordan Kyrou or Alex Debrincat, a Mat Barzal, Kyle Connor or Thomas Chabot and etc. The Flames could’ve used just a couple of impact players to really become contenders during their window. Hamonic, Hamilton and Brian Elliott just to name a few, didn’t do anything for the Flames to help them further their cause throughout their time here and it cost the Flames a chance to score big on some future stars.
If I could have a conversation with anyone in the Flames organization, it would be Tod Button. Would love to see their draft lists and the direction that the organization would be today if they were smarter with their assets. Afterall, this is the same man that found Gaudreau at #104, future Norris winner Adam Fox at #66, Rasmus at #53, Mangiapane at #166, Dustin Wolf at #217 and etc. The amateur scouting staff was the true MVP of this organization for the last decade+.

Why would anyone want Feaster as a GM? The worst GM this organization has ever seen. The worst.
P.S. Unless you meant it sarcastically and forgot to use the green font...

Make like Treliving and leave town.
Calgary’s contracts have essentially handcuffed the team in making moves.
What you see is what you get.

Do whatever it takes to clear 15m for Matthews and hitch our wagon to a Huberdeau - Matthews combo. I doubt it works but I would say pretty much anything to land one of those gigs.

The team is screwed anyhow if Murray Edwards is building a hockey team around random message board posters.

The good news is that you'd only need to fire one guy. Steve Pleau is the lone pro scout and he's been with the organization for about a decade.
