Default Rutger Hauer Dead at 75

Excellent character actor who was in a lot of great stuff over the years. RIP.

Quote:
Rutger Hauer, the Dutch actor best known for his turn as the replicant Roy Batty in Blade Runner, died last Friday at his home in the Netherlands, the actor’s agent, Steve Kenis, confirmed to Rolling Stone. He was 75.

While Kenis did not give a cause of death, Variety reported that Hauer died after a short illness. His funeral was held Wednesday.

While Hauer spent the early part of his career acting in a variety of films and television shows in the Netherlands and Britain, Blade Runner marked just his second role in an American film. Nevertheless, he made a lasting impression as Roy Batty, the fugitive replicant trying to evade Rick Deckard, the reluctant cop played by Harrison Ford enlisted to track down Batty and his co-conspirators.

He was certainly one of the busiest actors out there. He was also talented enough to play almost every role from blade runner, to sin city to being the zany villain in Buffy the Vampire Slayer to the sleezy head of Wayne Enterprises.

He was one of the villains who when you saw him appear you knew that shyte was about to get real.

RIP

I first saw him in "Escape from Sobibor," which I highly recommend. It's a true story about the escape from the concentration camp in Poland by the Jewish prisoners. Also stars Alan Arkin.

Great movie. Hauer played a Russian POW.

Blood of Heroes was my favorite movie growing up. Teams of marauding gladiator type bands would face off against eachother trying to put a skull on a stake ftw...good times.
