I was going to hand out candy, because I don't think it's a big covid risk. Close contact is 15 minutes or more, whereas handing out candy probably takes 15 seconds.
Then I remembered that I hate handing out candy. I have dogs that bark, my house is open concept, so it's hard to block them from the door, my house is still under repair from the hail storm and currently doesn't have a front outdoor light... it's just a pain. So I printed the no candy poster and will re-use it every year, as long as I can!
As for putting candy out in a bowl, I believe that is not recommended. If you can't / don't want to use a candy slide or tongs, then it's probably best for only you to touch it (with clean hands) instead of everyone who comes by putting their hands in the bowl.
We've finally settled on what we are gonna go (we both love handing out candy).
We'll be 'open for business', but we're gonna move both cars back to the 'bottom' of the driveway (instead of the top, as usual) and set up a small table with 10-20pcs of candy on it. We've always gotten our trick or treaters in small bursts, so we figure they can come to the closed screen door, trick or treat, and then hit up the table.
Love Halloween but just can't do it this year. Not only do I love handing out candy but my kids like to help and they'll be running back and forth from the door. So it's just the year to keep the lights off and watch a scary movie in the basement. Just printed out the poster, thanks.

The chute was not containing the candy, so switched to a cup on a stick. Have a barrier so they keep their distance. I think it's perfectly safe with some forthought. Kids need this.
It is definitely slow this year. We usually have about 100 and I made 60 candy bags that we put out on a table out front of our house. Only about two dozen gone so far.
ended up with 80 kids at my place.
last year I had 100. so almost normal.
my neighbourhood had high participation.
lots of people like me sitting outside handing out, or with tables outside for pick up.
I'd say that for the kids without a costume that included a mask, about 50% had their cloth/medical mask. I wore a level 3 medical mask.
my kid went out for an hour and had a huge haul. a lot of fun
Yeah it was much slower than we were expecting with it being a Saturday and great weather. All in all we had about 100 kids I would expect.
We had the fire pit with hot chocolate and Baileys for us. I built a candy slide for the delivery and it worked pretty good. They kids actually thought it was pretty cool and liked it so that was a plus.
