Hear, hear. It's the same thing every time. Sports don't need them aside from major events on an international scale perhaps. Like World Cup, Olympics, and I suppose Super Bowl.

I've always found George just fine when I am AT the dome (the synth can go die in a fire), however when I watch a game on TV he sounds horrid. Not sure what the cause is but it gives me something else to bitch about when it comes to Rogers.

Yeah it's not George I dislike, it's the damn organ. I like it for some stuff, but it needs to stop playing during the anthems.

That was the first time I heard her last night...
It definitely sounded to me that her pitch was off. I was just assuming that the organ wasn't playing with her because it would have made the notes she missed more obvious.
Additionally found her need to have her left arm sticking out to the side a visual distraction.
Given a choice between the two, give me George with his hat over his heart and reliable/accurate pitch.

I was listening to her while pouring some drinks so didn't see her so no "good looks" bias, I thought she was pretty bad and sounded like an amateur singer (which she is).
Having said that, anyone is better than Canyon.

Seriously?!? I was at the game, and had a hard time listening to it... she just wasn't good yesterday (maybe just an off night).
But would I rather listen to it being 'less than ideal' than not at all? 100% yes. The anthem is about national respect and identity - show me how that's a bad thing.

I find Canyon's version lacks energy - it dullens the crowd.
Last night, the crowd (around me at least) responded much more to her version than they do to Canyon's.
I don't have a horse in the race, but I want more energy and I felt we got that last night.

If you get rid of the anthem(s) what would replace it?
At most Flames games when the anthem is being sung the concourse is still full of people making their way to their seat. You would have to find some other time killer to replace it.
I say keep the anthems. That pre game fascist rally gets me into game mode.
