Twitter data leaked - 400 million user details up for sale

Hours before Christmas, threat actors posted an ad on a well-known hacker forum, claiming they were selling the data of over 400 million Twitter users.

The dataset includes Twitter handles, usernames, email addresses, and phone numbers. People behind the leak claim they are willing to sell the data for $50,000.

According to the post on the hacker forum, the data scrape was possible due to an unnamed ‘vulnerability.’ Data leaks of such scale are often possible due to system flaws that allow harvesting information at scale, a practice known as ‘scraping.’

The police there have been investigating him for several months. They know where his home is, they've raided it before. Allegedly, they've been unable to catch the brothers at home though, and also allegedly, the pizza box is what alerted them to the fact that they were in the country, so that's when they raided his home (and others). I don't imagine the pizza box thing is completely true, more likely that, having been in the home for the previous raid, they recognized that he was filming in his home studio & pounced.

On April 11, 2022, the police raided two properties in Ilfov County, Romania, including Tate's mansion, after the U.S. embassy alerted them that an American woman might be held at the property. Two women were found and claimed they were being held there against their will, sparking a DIICOT investigation into human trafficking and rape. After being questioned for five hours, both brothers were released. Tate later denied any wrongdoing, calling it a case of swatting.

On December 29, 2022, the police searched five homes based on a search warrant, including Tate's Ilfov mansion. Four suspects were arrested and detained for a period of 24 hours, including both Tate brothers, a former policewoman, and an unnamed fourth Romanian individual. DIICOT alleges that the suspects "recruited and then sexually abused" six women in Ilfov, and formed a group in early 2021 "with the purpose of recruiting, housing and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialised websites for a cost". Both Tate brothers are charged with human trafficking and forming an organized crime group. One of the four suspects is charged with rape, but was not named by police. Following the 24 hour detention, DIICOT asked a judge that the suspects be held for 30 more days; the judge is expected to issue a ruling later on Friday, December 30, 2022.

It makes for a fun story, but it's pretty dumb if people actually believed that was the reason they were able to track him down. I'm sure having access to his passport records, IP address, and the plethora of other info had nothing to do with knowing whether he was in the country or not. We aren't talking about Bin Laden hiding in a bunker here.

Well I'm the one that posted the original tweet and until we get confirmation I will continue to believe the pizza boxes were the final nail in the coffin. Maybe not the only clue where he was, but it is a little strange the raid happened within hours of that video being posted. Could be just a piece of the puzzle. If they already had info where he was why didn't they act sooner?

End of the day criticizing the validity of the pizza box theory is the same as criticizing Greta for making a dick joke. It misses the point and has no real value.

Was he found because of a pizza box? or not? One situation is funnier than the other. Neither situation has any more significance than the other.

It’s a question of media literacy. When someone tweets something your first thought should be That’s funny, your second through should be Is that true. So pointing out it’s likely not true is a reasonable action while enjoying the absurdity of it.
