I didn't love it but I definitely enjoyed Ad Astra. It's a beautiful movie.

There are enjoyable "dumb popcorn movies" and poorly executed, cringeworthy "dumb popcorn movies".
Top Gun was the latter.

There's plenty of people bashing the latest Jurassic Park but you're not offended by that. No one went to see that expecting an Oscar winner but the movie sucked within its genre, so did Top Gun.

This is the recommend or don't thread.
If you want a thread with only positive reviews on Top Gun, where you and your frat bros can chest bump & crush Budweisers cans on your heads all day long, go start a Top Gun circle jerk thread.

I really like Ad Astra. It kind lost me with the Tommy Lee bits at the end but it was fun overall.

You seem to be inserting quite a lot of personal issues here lol. Top Gun was pretty widely lauded as an enjoyable movie. They're not all Tokyo Story, it's ok.

Recommend or don't, but if your reason for disliking it is a complete misunderstanding of the obvious tone of movie you went to see, expect a comment lol.

Very weird.

The idea that anyone would make a case that having genetically engineered dinosaurs made from various forms of spliced DNA take over entire ecosystems was somehow "natural"....and then they decide the best thing is just to let animals get along with the dinosaurs? A family of endangered humpback whales is just supposed to co-exist with a Mesosaurus? This is an animal that's shown to be so aggressive that it bites through metal fishing cages for a snack earlier.

The old Nickelback argument.
I didn't say people can't enjoy it, go nuts. I simply gave my opinion that it was mind numbingly stupid. Some will agree with me, others won't and that's fine.
I don't like things just because lots of other people do.

I didn't give my reasons, I just implied it's so stupid it kills brain cells.
You inserted reasons for me not have the right expectations for the tone of movie and then argued with your own made up reason. Those are your words, not mine.
Classic straw man argument.

Let me make this really simple for you:
Some people will go see a movie with a complete expectation that it's a simpleton popcorn movie and still think it's poorly executed and terrible.

Just as people are saying the new Jurassic Park sucks, despite it being a dinosaur movie.
Just like many people thought The Last Jedi sucked even after they liked The Force Awakens.
This isn't people missing the tone of a movie, it's just people thinking the movies are bad.
If you can't understand this, I don't know what to tell you.

See How They Run was ok. Not great, not terrible. I liked both Ronan and Rockwell as leads.

I watched Everything Everywhere All at Once this weekend and went in with high hopes after seeing how well it was reviewed.

I can't believe how much I hated it.

Far too long, many scenes just kept on going, and the humour just felt flat and childish to me. I also felt that the message just wasn't very original either.

The whole movie just felt like an inconsequential waste of time. I was bored after 30 minutes.

3/10

I think EEAO is a movie that will be hurt by its reputation when people actually watch it. I liked it a lot of more than you, still think it was too long, but at this point the way people talk about it and the movie it actually is sort of incongruent.

I finally watched Top Gun Maverick last weekend. Absolutely RAGING that they didn't use the F-35.

They kept going on and on about being outclassed in their F-18's by the 5th Generation Fighter of the enemy. Yet you left your newest asset that is 5th Gen on the carrier deck? IDIOTS.

I loved it, the flight sequences were fantastic and it checked off all the boxes I wanted for a Top Gun sequel.

I've been roasted for liking (loving?) this movie but I'm glad someone else did too. There seems to be like 17 of us.

I think this movie suffered from inaccurate marketing where the trailers/ads made it seem like Space Wars starring Brad Pitt and it was anything but.

It was a good movie with an ultimately positive message.

Me three. Props for trying something new but didn't work for me.

The characters were fun I guess, there is that.

Same here. It was just too messy for me. If not for the two leads, it would have been a disaster.

I watched Top Gun Maverick a week ago and I really enjoyed it for what it was.
It was a fun action film, with reference quality audio and visuals on the 4K disc.

Top Gun Maverick was actually better than I had imagined, I was thinking Fast & Furious level of garbage but it was actually done in a fun, goofy way I didn't mind.

Ad Astra mostly got flack for the moon rover chase scene, overall I liked it.

Everything Everywhere was not nearly as good as I was hoping, underwhelming.
