The Flames need a statement game here. If they want to instill confidence in both the teams and the fan base, they need to have an amazing almost perfect game here.
I hate saying this so early in the season but I feel they're getting too far away from the team they were last year. If they can play tonight like they did for most of last year, even for this game, I think it'll start a trend that sees the Flames get on a roll. If they come out flat again and show little effort (compared to last years team), this will be the start of an ugly slide IMO.

Capitals are a good team so the Flames will have to play at a level they haven't been able to so far this season to win this one. A 1-5 start is a pretty big hole to start the season. I don't think must win is far off here as if this team starts 2-8 or 3-7 it's unlikely they will make the playoffs barring an Ottawa Senators miracle like last season.
It's gonna take a big game from everyone to win this one. OV is on a tear. Looking for point 900? Tonight is the night he gets it. Hartley has flat out come and said Ortio won't be playing as long as both Hiller and Ramo are here. I don't really have faith in either goalie but it's time for the offense to bail this team out.

7-6 Flames win
Did he actually say this? Or is this just your interpretation. That would be pretty close minded if he said that.

So, why not Ortio, the Flames’ 24-year-old Finn who the organization clearly feels is too talented to try sending down via the waiver process yet too inexperienced to try righting a listing ship?
“If I was a fan or a reporter, I’d ask the same question,” Hartley said.
“I can buy that thinking mode because that’s the easy part, but, at the same time, I’m a patient man and I’m a very loyal guy, and Rams and Hills have been very good for us. My job right now is to get them going.
“(Goaltending coach) Jordan (Sigalet) is working with them and we’re talking to them and they are two unbelievable guys. Nothing against Orts — he’s a great guy, too. But right now to mix a third goalie in the equation — not right now.”
Is there anyone on the Cap's who's due for either:
a) First NHL goal
b) Breakout game
c) First Multi-goal game
d) Milestones (Ovechkin 900th point) - Thanks to codynw
If so then the flames are in trouble. Here's to hoping we've refined our "system" and try to come out of 60 minutes with less then 15 icings due to wishy washy breakout pass's from behind the net
