Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla are all the same boring bloated games in different settings.

I found Origins boring, but Odyssey clicked for me. I found ancient Greece a much more interesting time period than Cleopatrian Egypt, and the tweaks they made to the combat system made it much more fun. I had no interest in the Viking setting of Valhalla, but now that it's free the mid-PS+ tier I'll probably give it a shot

I think they put a lot of effort into historical accuracy for Odyssey which I really enjoyed. And I'm like you I wasn't very interested in the setting but it grew on me a bit. I still liked Odyssey better but it's closer than I would have thought, so yeah give it a shot especially for free.

EDIT: I should say I wasn't interested in the setting of Valhalla

I still feel that the AC games do the open world thing as good or better than anyone else as they are bigger than games like Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Forbidden West while somehow managing to balance the grinding elements better than those two games. I really enjoyed both Origins and Odyssey and while I liked the story elements of Valhalla, it felt like a bit of a grind similar to Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Forbidden West were you feel like you are going through the motions with repetitive gameplay and quests.

Don’t get me wrong, I think modern AC games are impressive, well-made games - they’re just too much. You’ve seen every idea the developer had within 10-15 hours of playtime and at that point you’re like 10% into the game. I have the same issue with most open world games these days.

I did really like Ghost of Tsushima though, something about Sucker Punch’s open world design always really resonates with me. I also really liked the story and think it might be the most beautiful game produced to this point. I think a lot of what I like was it doesn’t try to be some fake RPG-lite like every game nowadays.

Ghost of Tsushima is a borderline masterpiece, so it's tough to compare the latest AC titles to it.

Odyssey, Origins and Valhalla are all good games, with Valhalla being the best of the three IMO. I like that it is long and has lots of content because like I said earlier, it's good value per entertainment dollar IMO.
Spoiler!

No AC games have quite recreated the magic of the Ezio series, but that's OK. I'm happy they are trying new things.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a Ghost of Tsushima II?

Not confirmed but lots of speculation since the studio had a lot of job postings with "Must have played the original Ghost of Tsushima" as a prerequisite

Loving this trend of getting Sony exclusives on PC after a year or two

Now just start doing it right away

I actually do have a PS5, I just enjoy some kinds of games far more on a PC.

I doubt you'll see that happen. They'll wait until sales die down on PS5 and then start considering releasing it on PC. They still want to sell PS5s but I think they realize there's PC gamers who will never buy a console even if it means not playing certain games.

I also think that maybe they hope that some people who don't want to buy a PS5 will play these games and not want to wait 3-5 years for the newer game and consider buying a PS5. I'm not so sure Myles Morales coming to PC this quick means they'll release all games they do bring to PC 1-2 years after they release. I think it had more to do with it being a standalone expansion to Spider-Man.

Couldn't let me have that one eh?

My PC is so old I'm not even sure I can call myself a PC gamer anymore.

I liked Odyssey much better. Playing as the female Kassandra, she is the most bad-ass female game character I've ever played as. I just thought overall everything was more polished and interesting in Odyssey.

I disagree. It's a very good game featuring stunning visuals, engaging storying, but one of the more repetitive games I have ever played. As much as the shrines and fox dens feel cool at first, they become extremely boring and repetitive the deeper you got into the game. For me it was GOTY-worthy after the first 10 hours and 30 hours later it felt more tedious than any AC game has ever felt to me. Still a good game and I would embrace a sequel because I think there's something there to build on and improve.

You have to play as Kassandra for the best experience.

I got about 2/3 of the way through Ghost of Tsuchima (on PS5 with the Iki Island expansion) and then I was basically got too busy to play video games or do anything of that nature for a couple of weeks and never got back to it. Maybe I will if things calm down again, but now it's summer.

Basically it's a beautiful game, a well made game, the combat itself is fun if a little rock-paper-scissors-esque... the characters aren't terrible but I also wouldn't say they or the writing are super interesting. The story is pretty basic, based on the portion of it I got through.

I would overall call it a very good example of an open world game that's worth playing but I don't think I'd go with borderline masterpiece. That's high praise.
